I wondered if you knew if there are many students who transferred from another college to USMMA? Is there a different strategy for transfer students vs students coming straight from high school?

@Bosley22 There are no transfer students at USMMA....everyone starts at the same starting point plebe year. however there are many that apply with some college under the belt already. I recommend reaching out to the admissions officer for your region to get specifics.

College students applying will have to provide not only School Official Evaluations for high school teachers but also two college letter of recommendations as well.

Not meaning to be pedantic, but the definition of a transfer student is a student that has started their college career and taken some college courses. Doesn't matter if no credits transfer or if everyone starts as a Plebe at KP.

My question was just if there was a strategy when applying that would be different than that of a high school senior. Are there certain classes he should be taking etc.

Any college applicant or re-applicant should take demanding college courses that mimic what a Plebe will be taking at Kings Point. These should include English, Calculus, and Chemistry with lab. Also, continue with finding and excelling at leadership opportunities. Try to establish relationships with your college professors so they will have a basis for recommending you for admission to USMMA next year. Good luck!

There are many who enter KP with a year (or more) of college under their belt. I would have to check for the exact number, but just a guesstimate would be around 10-15%--and that would include sponsored preps. Follow @kpmom2013 's recommendations above. My son entered with a year of self prep, as a first-time applicant, and has done well academically and regimentally. He did AROTC at his university and combined with a rigorous engineering curriculum and says that it helped immensely in his success (thus far!). Good luck!

How does this process work? Part 1 is filled out and submitted and then applicant is assigned a candidate number and permitted to move on if deemed a good candidate? If that's correct, what is the turn around time before they know to continue (or not)?

My son has begun his application as of Monday. We are very excited and eager. The football coaches have been very supportive and have put him in touch with several graduates one of which went Maritime and the other that is currently training to be an Air Force pilot so my son has both ends of the spectrum covered to see what he might be looking at in the future

In the past few years, it has been a quick turnaround, a few days. This year, who knows??
