If you are flying in, get an Airbnb near LIRR train station and leave the car at home. Definitely bring food/treats for your host mid. Dress in khakis and button down shirt or polo. Bring workout clothes for PE. Bring homework or a book to read to allow your host mid homework time for at least part of the evening.
Thank you! She is bringing ALL the clothes. Thanks for the HW tip.

My daughter has an overnight visit to USMMA this weekend. Any parents already do this in NY? Any suggestions for hotels, parking, etc. for this type of weekend?
I’ve seen some hints that say to stay in New York City (NYC). As someone who has family on Long Island and visits four times a a year, I can tell you that unless you have some compelling reason to stay in NYC, DON’T! There are hotels on Long Island and plenty to do and if you desire to visit something in the city, take the Long Island Railroad (LIRR). Parking is exorbitant in NYC. There is a Holiday Inn Express in Roslyn NY, about 15 miles from the Acadey. Small but a decent place to stay. See Holiday Inn Roslyn. For thing to do for parents, consider the Teddy Roosevelt home at Sagamore Hill. See Sagamore Hill. It is run by the National Park Service (NPS) so if you have any NPS type of entry passes, take them. About 30 miles from the Academy. In that same area is a wonderful hotel named the Fox Hollow.

Thank you very much! We will be driving to bring sports equipment. Treats - got it!
You’re welcome! And, just to clarify, they didn’t stay in NYC, just took the train into NYC for a short visit - which was fun! My husband likes to stay at chains he’s used to, so that’s why they stayed a little further away from USMMA - on Long Island. There are hotels closer - Expedia lists them… Have fun!

Anyone else experiencing issues with DODMERB being non-responsive? Up to about 3 weeks ago they were very communicative but since DS sent in the records they requested we have heard nothing, not even confirmation of receipt. Coach who is recruiting DS told him they have tried to communicate with them four times over the past few weeks and have not gotten any response with regard to DS and another verbally committed recruit.

DD is in the same boat and is also a recruit. She had to send her AMI response via UPS because of the size of the packet, so we have the tracking information. The packet was delivered last Monday, but her tech says that he has not received it. She's anxious because she already has one DQ, so she'll definitely have to go through the waiver process. DD sent me this screenshot, not sure if your DS saw it:

As of 7 Feb, DoDMERB is reviewing exams received thru 20 January. If your exams were closed by CIV Team/dodmets after that, they will be reviewed in the order they were received.

If you submitted documents between 19 Sept and 23 January and haven not received and email confirming receipt, please resend the documents.

Please note our email addresses have changed, our emails now end in @health.mil. The helpdesk email is dha.ncr.dod-merb.mbx.helpdesk@health.mil

Lots of hotels on Long Island, near the school. I am sure there is plenty of parking at those hotels if you research them. I stayed in Flushing and my hotel had a garage attached. (I'm sure they charged for parking but I flew in and used train to travel so I don't know the cost.) I uber-ed back and forth to USMMA but there is a bus stop right in front of the school. If you are driving to the school, parking seemed readily available both at the admission center and on campus. The campus is very compact. It's very easy to get around. If you plan to go to Manhattan for fun, I would leave the car at the hotel and take the train in. IMO, it is much easier to use public transportation/walk in Manhattan than to drive and park.

The Logging In booklet that candidates has a list of suggested hotels on page 6. You can download the booklet at Logging In Class of 2025. Although it says Class of 2025, everyone should review it very carefully for pertinent information. Prices may have changed but it is very worthwhile. The specific edition for 2027 will likely be sent about two months prior to reporting.

You might try reaching out to Mr. Larry Mullen, aka MullenLE, but he does not seem to be as involved with this message board as he had been in the past, so...good luck!

DS has heard nothing for months and just today they requested a body fat worksheet to be completed. Has anyone else had this happen?

In recent years, USMMA has had an increasing number of mids struggle to meet weight requirements. They have to be put on extra PT to try to make weight. I know several mids who have been disenrolled for this reason. The issue often comes up or is worse after sea year when mids return after months on board a ship which may have great food and limited time or facilities for exercise. Do yourself a favor and arrive for INDOC at a healthy weight that is well within commissioning standards. Trying to drop weight while you are there is an added stressor you do not need.

You answer as if you haven't seen different body types - my DD is "top heavy" - she is definitely healthy and in excellent shape. She passed the BCA glowingly! I have a DS at USCGA and a DS Army ROTC - no slackers here...

Any idea when I can receive my appointment? I received an LOA early December and had recently finished medical qualifications 3 weeks ago. All of my requirements are filled but there has been no update in my portal. Anyone experience anything similar?

If all the conditions of your LOA are met and you have not heard anything for 3 weeks, I would definitely contact Admissions. It usually takes only a couple days for the appointment to be made. My DD class of 21 took less than 24 hours. I would try emailing. Admissions people sometimes work on Saturdays this the me of year. Good luck.

Still haven't heard anything from DoDMERB, but on the advice of former USMA liaison to MOC sent an email to nominating MOC office today. Also noticed that DS's application status has now changed from "Under Review" to "Hold"

DS sent requested records on March 2, emailed helpesk the next day to confirm receipt because the PDF was large and they did acknowledge receipt. Nothing from DODMERB since.

EDIT: I should add though, DS received appointment offer today via the portal, even though medical still shows as pending.
