Not sure if it is still the case, but in my day, appointments were granted just days before Indoctrination in some instances.

It's possible for an appointment to offered days before reporting day which is July 7 this year. Principal appointments will be concluded sometime during the first week of May. After that appointments will be offered to those candidates on Hold. It would be beneficial if your son continued to build his resume and submit additional letters of recommendation.

Responses to accept or decline principal appointments are May 1 iirc.
 
Does anyone have any experience they could share with me as I am visiting the KP next week for an overnight visit? I haven't been to the academy yet I want to make sure I make the most of it. I've heard of bringing snacks for the midshipmen that I stay with but I wasn't sure about much else. Thank you!!
 
Definitely bring snacks, enough for your mid sponsor and his/her roommates, more if possible. Dress in something like khaki pants and a tucked in, collared shirt like a polo. If you want to check out any teams, bring workout clothes because depending on the team, you may be able to work out with them. Bring something to do in the evening like homework or a book to read to allow your mid to do some studying. Don't believe everything you hear. And have fun.

Everyone at this point has until May 1st. After that date, appointees will be told how long they have, usually a few days. Later on, it can go down to 24 hours.

I'm in the same boat, my status says under review and has been like this for a while. Is this normal and should I still stay patient?

How long has it been "under review?" Usually that is a temporary status that changes pretty quickly. I would consider contacting admissions at this point if your status does not change to "hold."
