USMMA Class of 2027 Waiting Room & Hangout

If anyone is interested in chatting about starting KP next summer, PM me. I would like to get a network of friends so we aren't strangers this July .
Hello! I got the appointment back in March but just accepted today! Is there some sort of group for the c/o 2027?

Yes, for parents on Facebook. Search for class of 2027 US Merchant Mariens Parents Group. Nothing that I know of for students (yet).

Sadly, DD is out. Medical waivers were denied. She was placed on hold in March and waivers were requested. Additional waiver AMI appointments and documents were turned in sometime around March 22. DD hasn’t been notified of the rejection by email and hasn't received a TWE, but the portal reflects it. Fingers crossed USNA will come through with the miracle waiver approvals!

Best wishes to all candidates still on hold/waiting for waiver approvals!

which portal reflects it? DoDMERB or USMMA. We are also medical pending on USMMA portal and under waiver review on DoDMERB portal. We were told DoDMERB portal would update before Academy portal, have you been looking there. I thought same agency (BUMED) issues waivers for both USNA and USMMA, so I would expect timing to be pretty close for both. Opinions based on what I have been taking in through the process, I am by no means an expert. BEST OF LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DD only sent me a screenshot of her DoDMERB portal which reflects "withdrawn." Per her text, USMMA portal now says "medically disqualified and waiver denied." DoDMERB still reflects "Under Waiver Review" for USNA. Although many say that USMMA uses USNA decisions, we are staying extremely hopeful that USNA will approve her waivers! :)

DS, South Carolina, one of 2 on hold from SC, supposedly 4 offered LOA from SC and all 4 accepted per LCDR Wheeler. National wait list. Contacting those he / I can as an alum and actively sailing Master, knowing the mariner shortage crisis we are living.

Sending reaffirming letters of reference, outside primary school additional education courses, updating resume. Trying to “stay on top of the pile” with the wait list candidates.

It is a bit irrelevant as times and circumstances have changed; I was waitlisted till the second week of June before joining the Indoc Class of ‘97. Best of luck to all on hold for earlier news than that. It was certainly tough on me and I don’t wish that on anyone, but it is unfortunately the way the system works to account for last minute setbacks having space.

For those on hold stay strong in mind and committed in spirit if this is what you truly want, be it to sail or join the armed forces or otherwise. Damn the torpedoes! Full speed ahead!

You should be able to find "reporting in" instructions on the academy website. If this year's instructions are not there yet, you can look for prior years because they change very little from year to year. You will have a ton of forms to fill out. Save copies of everything. You should make sure you have a passport. Apply right now for your TWIC card so you can have it by the day you report. If you are over 18 complete your selective service registration. Make sure your vaccinations are up to date. Get some good tennis shoes so you can break them in before you arrive. Consider getting some good insoles for your dress shoes because you will be on your feet on hot concrete for many hours per day. Opt to get the plebe and educational kit packages offered rather than lugging everything there yourself. If you do, your things should be waiting in your room when you arrive. Enjoy your remaining time with your family and friends.

The Class of 2025 Logging In document can be found at 2025 Logging In. I have not found the 2027 yet posted on the Academy website. There should be minimal differences but most importantly contact the Academy and get the current document. As kpmom2013 indicates, don't drop the ball on this, the things you have to do prior to reporting in are extensive, timely in nature and time consuming to complete.

Hello all,
I was just accepted, and I can’t even describe how excited I am for this opportunity! Is there any info that may come to mind that the vets can share about the next steps? More specifically, when will I be receiving more information about this opportunity from the academy?
We were just emailed the logging in book for 2027 on Monday, and hard copies were mailed this week. If you don’t receive it soon I would email your admissions officer!

Still under DoDMERB review, will DoDMERB decide on everybody before the cycle ends

Not sure. Some years they are too late with their decisions. If you get a waiver decision after INDOC starts, you just miss out for this year. This is why future applicants should start their application early so they can do DoDMERB exams in summer and have plenty of time for the waiver process to run its course.
