The grads who commission into the USMC, are they license mariners as deck or engine officers? How do they squeeze in Leatherneck between cruises? Do they go active duty or can they go into USMC reserves and go work straight into the maritime industry after TBS and their initial 2nd LT training (branch ie... infantry, engineers, intelligence... etc)

In order to graduate from Kings Point, midshipmen must pass their license exam as either deck or engine officers. No license, no diploma. There is plenty of time to squeeze in Leatherneck. If you want to be a Marine Corps officer, you must go active duty, not reserves. If you choose to work using your license as a Mariner, then your commitment is five years plus a concurrent eight years Navy reserve.
