My DS has rec'd an appointment to USMMA prep at NMMI. He is an okay swimmer but could probably use some help at NMMI to really bring him up to speed in this area. Does anybody know if he will be able to get help at NMMI or should we find a private instructor for him this summer?

I would think that doing it during the summmer without the pressure of being at school would be the better bet. I guess I am lucky, while I lived in New York until 12, I lived the rest of my life in Florida and California and it seems weird when someone says they arent a strong swimmer. My kids as well as myself, spent our whole summers in the pool so being in the water is natural. While none of us would consider ourself long distance swimmers, we are confident swimmers. On the other hand, I couldnt snow ski if my life depended on it. It all depends where you grew up

Agree with @Humley-anything that can be done to reduce the pressures of 1st Semester prior to attendance is a good thing. Many fail to make it out of 1st Semester; to me, just passing it is success.

Find someone during summer to help coach him. NMMI only has a high school team.
