Hey all,

I am recently resigned MIDN (promoted to civilian!) from USMMA and looking for where Marine Transportation credits would transfer EXCLUDING maritime academies. I believe for now I am done with the USCG license program but I would want to know where other people were able to transfer outside of the maritime industry. I have a 2.6 GPA on about 78 credit hours and would also like to pursue NROTC. I would also like to add that though I did resign, I still think USMMA is a great school and I hold no resentment or ill will, and hope the rest of my classmates and the regiment go on to do great things!!

Uhh, I mean 78 credits would probably put you at the end of 3/C year? Your gen ed stuff will transfer, but I wouldn't be optimistic about celestial being able to validate much of anything.

Leaving isn't going to help with NROTC, especially with 2.6.

@WarElephant21
As noted above, your gen ed credits may transfer. “Pro dev” type courses probably won’t, to a non-maritime school, but I’ll be interested to read on this thread what other posters report.

You may find yourself having to essentially start over, which may not be a bad thing.

If you want to go NROTC, you can certainly try for a scholarship, but your college GPA so far won’t show well, unless you can counterbalance with a superb HS record and test scores.

Becoming a college programmer is one way to see if NROTC is the right fit for you.

You didn’t provide us a lot of detail, and I am NOT asking, but do spend some time thinking about why USMMA was not the right place for you. Was it the regimented life? Emphasis on regular PT and fitness? STEM challenges? All that awaits you in some form at either NROTC or during your years of obligated service.

There is no emphasis on regular PT and fitness at USMMA. There are no STEM challenges for a marine trans major past 3/C year. I highly doubt regimental life got to him as an upperclassman.

I had a friend leave at about 50-60 credits, and he basically started all over at a state school. I believe your commitment at USMMA begins when you successfully complete your 1st tri of 2/C year rather than just the first day of 2/C year, or if you pass 2nd sailing projects as a B splitter.

I was able to scrounge up enough credits and High School AP credits to have a verbal confirmation I would be admitted to a Geo-spatial program at a Decent State School, but I also wanted this thread to be of any help to any other resignations who wanted to see what life there was beyond KP. I hate to say it but Mr2020 is right, regular PT and fitness is all on the individual once you get out of indoctrination. Regimental life was something I enjoyed, but it's a let down in the fact that it's kinda like playing dress up Navy 5/7 days of the week and just trying to not get caught doing dumb stuff on the other 2. Thankfully I've talked to an NROTC coordinator at the same school, and it seems like I'll be able to pick up a two year scholarship for the small semester and graduate just behind my class.

Sounds like someone got sold a bill of goods that he was signing up for "military school".

Good luck to you and thank you for sharing. Sometimes things don't always work out the way we think they will or should. It took a lot of courage for you to walk away from KP but you are right that you need to follow your heart.
