Will be visiting the academy the same week as finals. Son has an interview only without a tour because the cadets are studying. How much of the academy will he be able to visit? We live a long way from NY and this was the only week we could make the trip work. Thanks for your help.

When are you going? My daughter and I will be there 3/25 - 3/28
she is doing an overnight 3/26.

I thought I read on their site that they will not schedule visits during their finals?

"There are several periods during the year when escorted visits to the Academy are not available (although a meeting and interview with an admissions representatives may be possible) :

The weeks immediately before and after trimester final exams.
The week of trimester break and the first two days after midshipmen return from the break.
The weeks of the winter holiday break.
The period from the Friday before memorial Day weekend until the middle of August.
Several "blackout" dates during the course of the academic year due to special campus events. During the periods when no escorted visits are available, students may still arrange an "Interview Only" visit with an admissions recruiter. Note that this option is not available during two weeks in July when Indoctrination of incoming freshmen (plebes) is underway. The Academy campus is closed to visitors during Indoctrination.

Students interested in visiting the Academy should call, toll free, 1-866-546- 4778 (1-866-KINGSPT), or 516-773-5391 to schedule an appointment. Any visit must be scheduled at least one week in advance."

They don't do the tours with mids because the mids simply don't have time for the distraction with exams, which are next week. I'd suggest calling the admissions office, or email them, to see if it would be possible to walk around the campus at all. If nothing else, I would think you should be able to see Wiley Hall and the museum. It's a beautiful campus. The chapel is worth a visit too. Mind you, I didn't actually get to tour the campus until I-day. I was politely asked to leave and find a way to entertain myself while D had her tour.

We went on January 26. Our son did get a day with a midshipman including lunch. However, we (the whole family) got an amazing tour with Lt. Broxton, our son's admissions officer. In any case, we saw: The White House, the waterfront, the Kings Pointer, the sailing center, the Chapel (and met the chaplain), a midshipman room, the USMMA store (where we were allowed to purchase USMMA logo stuff), we also saw the gym, the pool, a wrestling practice room and the pub. We were also able to have lunch on our own at the snack bar next to the USMMA store. It was all in all a very enjoyable day. I would think the admissions officer would take you on such a tour and also would let you wander around on your own for a while before you have to leave. Contact your admissions officer and give it a try!

We will be there the second week of March, so they will be studying for exams. That's why he can not go on an overnight visit. We have however, been in contact with a Mid who said he may be able to show us around on an un-offical tour if he has time. Otherwise, I guess we will just do a self guided tour.

Did you schedule/talk to Betty?

Exams are March 2 - 6. The second week of March is Spring Break. There will be no classes in session. But if the mid you're in contact with is staying at KP over the break, they should have time to show you around. Be aware that it is a no class rates time, so you won't see real conditions for the plebes.

We did our visit in Sept. On day one we had the tour. My son spent the night with a midshipman
and went to some classes on day two.

How was your visit?????

We had a very nice visit, thank you for checking. Spent almost two hours with an admissions officer and another hour with the Director of Waterfront programs. Both very nice men with a lot of information. Mids were on spring break so we toured the campus ourselves on a cold rainy day. My son really liked it and is very excited about getting a chance to go to KP. There really are so many oportunities coming out of the USMMA.

I just printed our boarding passes.. we fly tomorrow morning... :)
we are not excited at all.........

LOL

yes we are!

If you're there around breakfast time stop by Deli on the Green at 647 Middle Neck Road for a great breakfast sandwich.

Safe travels to you. I ditto Kp2001 on Deli on the Green. Good YUM times. Hope you have time for the museum if its open. Have a great time!

Hey Jamzmom..., WHAT A SMALL WORLD we are in...

so Joyce and I were in the NEX and I saw a fine young man and asked him to explain the ranks to me.. he started talked and told me he was going AF upon graduation.., I realized I read this story and he tells me his mom is big in the forums.... LOL

You have a fine son! and we talked for about 10 minutes or so... :)
I told him to tell you we met.. and then he was on his way..:thumb:

very cool

Joyce is on her overnighter now....and I am back in the Anchor inn...missing her...

Thats just crazy JCollins. Wow. Of all the Mids at KP running around, you bumped into mine to a question. He texted me yesterday afternoon to say he'd met you guys. Amazing. Tell me true.... what did the little devil have in his hands in the Nex? Hot Pockets, a can of Ravioli or Bagel Bites? Very happy that you got to meet him. He was happy to have met you!

Bet you guys are tired after that whirlwind trip. Let us know how it went!

Jamzmom

he was going to the frozen food area to grab some food.. :shake:

very small world....

HA! I knew it! What a rat. My recent little bitty discussion of the sodium & fat contents of processed foods fell on deaf ears. LOL

So J Collins--how was the visit? I know your dd decided on CGA, but did you have a good time? What did you think of the campus, etc? Inquiring minds want to know!
