USNA 2/C Weekend

For those who are planning to visit USNA over the Columbus Day WE, I have only the following to say:

Sailboat show + Air Force game + tiny roads of Annapolis = Unmitigated Traffic Disaster!

If you intend to go to the game, plan to arrive -- as in be inside the stadium -- AT LEAST 2.5 hours early b/c it will take you much longer than you expect to get there unless you can walk. Going downtown in a car . . . forget it. Trying to find anyplace in DTA to eat . . . not happening.

The game, the boat show, etc. -- it's all super fun in its own way. In my day, they gave free Boat Show admission to mids and it was neat checking out all of the boats. If you decide to stay in and around town, patience is key . . . as is being prepared to walk. O/w, take the advice above and get outta town. :)

We have already decided that we won't attend next year. We are not the least bit interested in football nor viewing a parade and would prefer to visit on a 3 day weekend (Columbus Weekend). This will allow us to spend more time with our Mid and ideally won't have much of Saturday shaped around a football game. The wife and I have seen college classes and we have both seen dorm rooms. Also, Columbus weekend is less 'crowded ' in the Annapolis area. (I am not disparaging USNA football - it's just not how I would want to spend the limited time we have to see our Mid and do what is interesting to us)
2C Parents Weekend has been on Columbus Day weekend several times. My daughter was '16 grad and hers was over the three day. I believe either '17 or '18s was as well. SO, you might end up there on 2C parent's weekend anyway!
This year was my 3rd 2C parent's weekend, and I wouldn't have missed them. We didn't go to the games (we watched at friends house on TV!), or the parades, but I did go to classes, visit the room, more to meet the Company Officer and Senior Enlisted than to see the rooms, and went to lunch in King Hall, which is a fun experience. Admittedly, it was nice that one of them was on a 3 day!
