USNA 2026 Waiting and.… Waiting

I am anxiously awaiting. I have 2 questions if anyone has any experience with either of these situations.

I went on a CVW in November and while there the plebe's I roomed with all told me they were invited on one as well and they were sure I would get in. After looking into this further, I see that this has no bearing on if you get in or not. Are there a lot of candidates who went on a CVW and were turned down? I am going crazy waiting!

Also, I hurt my shoulder playing football after I was medically qualified. I had to report this as I was finishing up my CFA and needed an extension. So DODMERB then medically disqualified me. I am also a candidate for USMA. On the DODMERB website, I have been granted a waiver for West Point, however, my USNA still says "under waiver review". I have a letter from by sports doc fully clearing me that I sent in. Does anyone know why I would be granted a waiver for West Point but not USNA?
Go the the DoDMERB forum page there are similar posts. And you can ping MullenLE there as well.

Don’t mull over the CVW thing. Not all who go to a CVW get appointed; not all who are appointed went to a CVW. Admissions uses it as an informational tool. And a plebe is likely not to have any idea how Admissions arrives at its decisions, except an assumed correlation along the lines of “it worked for me.” Don’t spend any more time on it. You got to go, and presumably it did its intended job of helping you make an informed decision.

Your waiver is no doubt is in queue awaiting review. Imagine the hundreds of cases awaiting what you want to be a thoughtful, unhurried, thorough review by the waiver authority at USNA, who likely does this in addition to other assigned medical officer duties.

Waiver authorities at USAFA and USNA can arrive at different waiver conclusions, as service waiver policies differ, to reflect the fact missions, gear, equipment, operating environments, etc., differ.

And, while a civilian doc can clear you for resumption of normal civilian activity, only a military provider can find you meet standards and are cleared for full military duty.

Just keep working on the patient waiting and do any approved strengthening exercises whil getting yourself in peak+ condition for wherever you will be inducted in 4 months.

Ditto advice on DoDMERB forum post.

Two different academies that serve two different military branches that have two different missions. Simple as that. Just as USNA and USMA vet candidates differently on the academic side, they do so on the physical side. They’re looking for the same things at a high level — top academics, strong leadership, great physicality — but ultimately there are some nuances that reflect their unique missions.

My son was granted a waiver for USMA but still waiting for USNA. I think the processes are separate. Should be a good indicator though that they were willing to clear you for one so probably the other too.

Our CVW was kinda different as it flooded that weekend. Missed getting to experience a lot of stuff but clearly they higher and more pressing priorities.

Thanks! This makes me feel better. I was able to wrestle all this season and I am pretty sure my shoulder strength is even better than before. Now if I can just get better on being patient.

Are appointments/rejections coming out a little slower than in previous years this year? At least slower than pre covid? I’ve noticed a lot less noise than when a couple of my friends applied a couple years back.

No way to tell. It depends on how many find this forum each year and post their appointment. What you are here is a tiny data sliver, not enough to do trend analysis.

A good friend of mine had a daughter that was wait-listed, so she proceeded with Plan B to accept a lacrosse scholarship to UVA. Just a week or so prior to I-Day she got the call for an appointment, which she took. She graduated a few years ago with straight As and was personally responsible for starting up an intercollegiate lacrosse program that went nationwide. That extra two months of waiting was killer, but she stayed strong and the Navy lucked out. This is not for the faint of heart to be sure!
