DS received an email on Oct. 18 inviting him to attend an “Admissions Candidate Tour” He completed his tour last week and there were 7 other attendees. They were allowed to bring one parent, but I was unable to attend as I’m overseas. Has anyone else received one of these invitations? Would this be a fairly good indicator? (I’ve attached the invitation below)...

ON a side note, he received a call yesterday from one of his Senator’s staff offering a USNA nomination.F200231B-66AE-4F3E-BF74-AAAB01002D7F.jpeg

The candidate tour isn't an indicator of anything, but the nomination is most certainly a step in the right direction.

I would love to know how these candidates are selected. DS participated in CVW and (virtual) Summer Seminar and then attended the first USNA Admissions Candidate Tour in October. Of course a 3Q and Nom are mandatory, but I'd like to believe this is a "good sign" ...

Just want to be optimistic, with a plan B and C in place ...

best to all !

It was a very thorough tour and very informative visit. Had the opportunity to see Mids going to and from as well.
Super proud of their commitment to our country !

I don’t think there is any certain formula for how candidates are selected. It’s designed to help a candidate decide if USNA Is for them. For example, My 2nd to attend USNA had an older brother there, had visited, was set on attending. He wouldn’t receive an invitation.

It’s also a tool in admissions belt to help increase awareness/exposure to USNA. It’s probably a safe bet to assume a CVW wouldn’t be offered to a non-competitive candidate. So in that sense, it’s a positive. But there aren’t points awarded, or any direct benefit to the application for attending one. Nor is being offered a visit an endorsement of your package.

Hopefully you had a good visit, and gained some insight into what USNA is like. And it can help you decide of you could see yourself attending and signing up to serve as a Naval/Marine officer.

BTW...if you/your candidate isn’t yet aware, Admissions is doing briefings via Facebook/Instagram live sessions. Informative, and I suspect you can send questions. It’s another outreach available to applicants/candidates or others interested. Check out ISNA’s Admissions pages.

Congrats on his Nom. Very exciting. Candidate DD was invited to the Yard tour in October and again recently for the month of December. She also attended Virtual SS and Virtual CVW this past week. Based on current Mid DD experience, it seems admissions is being more liberal with invites to these events. My current Mid attended in person SS but that was it. As stated above, doubtful if these admissions program invites are very good indicator, but the nomination certainly is. Good luck to your DS.

Thanks much folks. Happy to see the list of appointments started. Will be interesting to see the list fill in...

Mine was invited in October, November and December. We were scheduled to attended beginning of November with hotel and flights booked but USNA called my daughter snd told us we could not come due to our Covid numbers. They reached out again 2 weeks ago asking her to come in December but with finals we can’t make it happen. Think it’s odd they would have visitors on campus. But she was thrilled to be Invited.

FYI -- after watching the Superintendent's message yesterday, You can expect the Candidate Tour program has been suspended for the time being.
Being invited for a Tour is certainly not a bad sign, but there is no benefit to trying to figure out the criteria for an invitation. It is primarily an awareness and marketing program, and the an interested candidate still has to compete with all the other applicants.

I went to one in November. I had told my interviewer I hadn't been to USNA so he asked me if I wanted a tour and I said sure. He relayed it to someone else and I got called to set up a date. It doesn't mean anything in terms of admissions chances.

I did get a free t-shirt so that was pretty nice.
