My son has been working on getting his PTR complete so he can send it off and I had a quesition regarding the USNA Alumni Assoc. Is it a good idea to join now with the life time membership or should he wait. Any insight would be great!

Thanks,

Fill it out - if not now he will this summer. They all join and it is taken out of their pay, I forget exactly when but think the last payment is in November of firstie year.

Getting the life membership plebe summer is worth it. You won't miss the money and you never, ever have to pay again.

How about the parents, do most of you join the Association (4 years, lifetime, not at all?)?

Hi Pachrian, we joined the Association for 4 years. I understand the proceeds benefit the mids and it will be that much easier to stay in the news loop. Our son got the lifetime membership.

Since this is a very old post . . . any new insights to this advice? Still worth the money for a lifetime membership?

I think so. Looking back on the decades after graduation, the vast majority of my classmates and I are proud of
our alma mater and desire to keep some level of connection and the Alumni Assoc is a good way to do so. The
process of enrolling mids as life members started while I was there and there is a stark difference in the percentage
who are members between the classes pre and post the inclusion of life membership while a mid. It turns out that
the large sum cost of paying for the life membership at one bite is large enough that many stayed with annual
memberships and is is just too easy to lose track of it as we move through our lives.
I agree that joining as a mid with payments spread over your years at USNA is a good way to go.

The membership also gives you access to a great number of photos taken during plebe summer. It will enhance your Waldo hunting experience.
