Good evening. Today I was surprised to find that my application portal for the USNA said that I had received a nomination from my congressman. However, I’ve yet to hear back from his office and my Blue and Gold officer has said that he doesn’t seeing anything new on his end of the portal. Could this be a mistake? Could I not have the nomination? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

This is what it looks like for me :

My DS saw his portal change before he heard from our Congresswoman. You could call or email the Congressman's office to confirm.

DS had the same experience! One day we happened to log on to his application and saw the nomination had been uploaded by USNA a week or 10 days prior. He emailed his BGO, who said he didn't see it, but that it's often a lag between what he sees and what USNA has. The nomination was received by USNA on Dec. 13, and we didn't get the letter in the mail from the Senator until Jan. 4.

So yeah, expect delays. :)

Congrats!!

I had one different and one similar experience so far, and one very confusing conversation that I could use some help on.

1) received senatorial nom just before Christmas. Just a letter in the mail congratulating me on receiving his nomination. It was incredibly surprising as I thought I'd blown my interview. HUGE sigh of relief. Did show up in my portal, but didn't see it until after I received the letter because I hadn't checked there that week so don't know the timing.

2) noticed last Wed. on the portal that it showed my congressman's nomination received. Hadn't received any mail or call prior. Luckily I'd looked that morning, because at lunch the congressman called me from DC to congratulate me personally! That night the letter was awaiting me at home.

3) Now for the confusing part... when I talked to the congressman, I KNOW he said "congratulations on your appointment to the USNA. I'm excited to see where you go over the next 4.5 years" I thanked him greatly for the nomination, but after I hung up thought wait a minute... he said appointment. Not sure if I mis-heard, he mis-spoke, or he did say it and it's correct but not in the system yet... Portal still says "pending review" status. I've seen some threads that say they occasionally let the congressman know first in case they want to congratulate the appointees, I've seen others that say they never do that. Don't know what to think, other than that the anticipation is driving me wild. With the shutdown are the updates possibly lagging? Any thoughts / similar experiences would be greatly appreciated. I feel totally honored to have gotten this far, just wish (as we all do) that I knew for sure. Thanks

You could email/call the Congressman's office to double check on whether he said nomination or appointment... I can see why you'd want to know!!

It is common for a congressman or their staff to call with a congrats on an appointment. USNA usually gives them a few days (seems to be around 3-5) before they update portals. Some Congressman call and others don’t. It is fairly common. You can call the MOC office or wait it out and see what your portal does.

Thanks for the info! Remaining hopeful, will probably hold out a while longer before contacting them. I'm sure they're a bit tied up given last week's shutdown activity.

How does one know if their state does the primary nomination vs the slate where there are 10 nominations and the service academy chooses? If the state does the latter, I'm assuming that the academy has to wait until the January 31 application deadline before an appointment from that state /slate is made? Thanks for any help in understanding this!
