Fairly obscure question of insignificance, but does anyone have knowledge of how often the USNA board meets?

Usually they meet every Thursday. But it can change for holidays or other activities.

Will already having a nomination prioritize me in the evaluation process? At the moment I have a presidential nomination...

Sorry, I should clarify. I meant to ask if my application will be looked at before others without a nomination will be looked at. Or do all applications get reviewed based on when they are submitted?

They an be reviewed at anytime. Nomination or not, has not impact on if and when you let application is reviewed by the board. Remember the admissions board itself just determines qualified or not. It then goes to another group (can’t remember their official name, but something like Nominations & Appoontments) to slate an applicant for an appointment.

Do they let you know if you've been reviewed and whether or not you have been deemed qualified?

I received an email from my BGO last week stating that my application has been deemed "qualified." However, nothing has been updated on the application portal.

You will know if you are physically and medically qualified. The last Q is scholastically. You will not know this. Your BGO is not supposed to disclose that info. Don’t recommend you ask them. Most BGOs will not give this out as they aren’t not supposed to.

Even if you are reviewed it doesn’t mean you will receive an appointment immediately. For example if you have a Nom from your congressman who used an unranked slate (they submitted 10 names and USNA will pick the top candidate)... but applications aren’t due until 1/31, they need to know the score of those 10 (if they all finish their application and are qualified) before making a decision. There are 100s of scenarios to how this all plays out. For a Presidential Nom there are usually around 800 who receive this nom but only 100 who can be charged here. USNA will start to move puzzle pieces around as those candidates also now start MOC Noms. Most candidates will hear from Jan-Mar. Hang in there.

BGO's are not supposed to comment on Board qualification. It will not appear in your portal either.

Forums like this provide good insight into the process, but it seems to me that all this knowledge just creates angst. I understand that waiting is hard -- I went through it long before the days of the internet so we were oblivious to all this information, but have two daughters who went to competitive schools. The USNA (and other Service Academy) admissions process is different than any other ...but my advice to candidates is to worry about what you can control, and let the rest go. Put your effort into submitting the application , passing CFA , and DODMERB, then relax, work on Plan B, and enjoy your last year of HS.

^^ I agree, worrying about the day/time those admissions boards meet won't change anything about your application. Focus on finishing h.s., work your plan B options, work toward getting a NOM and complete any open aspects of your application.

USNA no longer routinely tells candidates if they are 3Q and your BGO is NOT supposed to let you know. (That may be different from how other SA's operate.)

Does all of the above stated by these posters apply to USMA and USAFA as well?

USMA tells the candidate they are 3Q. Don’t think USAFA does but could be wrong. Majority of appointments for USNA, USMA and USAFA do come in Jan-Apr timeframe.

If Board meets every Thursday, and DS's December ACT scores are updated before Thursday in the portal, is it possible that his application get a look this week if there was a significant improvement?

As I understand only from from reading forums, your DS’s application is reviewed at as soon as it’s complete and they are able. If deemed qualified, it is ‘shelved’, along with its WCS in that qualified state until it can, or will, be charged with a nomination. And while it is ‘shelved’ and waiting, significant changes to the application (ie increased test score) can be added, perhaps increasing WCS. My understanding is that it isn’t reviewed over and over. It’s kind of in a pile of completed, scored applications. Along with all the others that are scored and completed and reviewed.

Is your sons complete? If so and he tests again, with an improved score, I would make sure and email admissions to have that added to his file. It’s my understanding that anything one wants to add post completion needs an email to admissions to do so. And I would suggest doing that anyhow to ensure it’s added at this point in the game, leave nothing to chance!!

Thanks justdoit19. He's been complete since AUG and CPR. I'm not sure if he was reviewed yet or qualified. His December ACT came up to 34M and 35E. Scores were sent priority. So maybe it will be reviewed with the new scores, or they will just be added to the shelved file. If he wasn't qualified to begin with, will they review it again with the new scores?

Dadx4. I second that with justdoit19. Email Admissions. If your son doesn’t have an LOA then the Admissions is probably waiting to assess him with other top qualifiers in your district. And if you’re in highly competitive district it maybe unlikely you may get an answer from Admissions unless you have LOA and Service Connect Noms. From what I gather from the Forum and Grads, Jan round is mostly for those with LOAs with Noms and Direct Appointments/Presidential/Service Connected Appointments. Keep us informed and good luck!

There is little benefit to trying to figure out when the Admissions Board meets, or the order of reviewing an applicant. It's certainly, not worth sitting by your computer on Friday AM to see if the status changed the day before. You will not know when the Admissions Board reviewed your application, and should not know (unless there is a BGO leak) whether you were "Qualified."
