USNA class 2023 multiple name tags?

During Plebe Summer we were constantly reminded that Captain Crunch our ranked us. This included us being required to have a box in all our rooms on the desk and requesting permission to do things from a box... of cereal...

^ Now that's funny ! See, Detailers have a sense of humor, and Plebe summer is all fun and games. Think about, Plebes get to go sailing, swimming, out to the rifle range, it's a lot like summer camp !
During my plebe year, we had a Second Class who had been a very notorious plebe and well known throughout the brigade. Apparently, a month or so before his I day he had been interviewed on a national TV show of some kind and when asked about his upcoming plebe summer, he said that it was like Summer Camp. Well, the upperclassmen throughout plebe summer took every opportunity to be one of his "Camp Counselors". It did not help that he had a very unfortunate (and easily remembered) last name with appropriate nickname to go with it.

There has been a sighting of a Plebe wearing 7 name tag this summer. Is there a record? And how many name tags total does a plebe get? In this case, the Plebe was wearing 2 name tags that were apparently not his own (had a different name than the rest of them).

I've seen the white whale! Last night on the parents' Facebook site, my wife found pictures of the 7 name tag plebe. Looked like the pictures were from the wrestling smoker. His mom thought it was funny so hopefully she'll post the story after Sunday's phone call.

It did appear like his mom found it funny, but IMO she should have been the one to post it, not a stranger. Maybe the plebe didn't find it funny, and as far as we know, maybe the parents didn't. It became a laugh-fest. I don't think a non-parent has any business posting things like this about other kids.

I'm really astonished at what parents (alright, I'll say it - mostly moms) are posting on the Facebook pages about their own children. I'm sure part of it is their way of getting through Plebe Summer but I'm quite certain my DS would be horrified if I posted his baby pictures. In fact, he would be horrified if I posted ANY pictures of him. When are they entitled to be treated as the emerging adults that they are?

those Facebook pages are extremely cringe inducing

there are countless examples, but one of the worst was seeing letters to home from plebes who were struggling posted BY THE PARENT for all the world to see, with requests for advice on how to help junior

after plebe summer, most of that stuff dies down, and only the hard core helicopter parents stay active on those pages

I say it all the time... Nothing is private on social media. A 'closed group' is never really closed. If can see these posts, so can detailers and upperclassmen.

I hope the folks who are complaining about FB here (and I can't imagine to what end) are also complaining in the FB group. You have to go to the right audience to get effective action.

I never owned a FB account. Should I? Has Zuckerberg installed security yet?

Seriously. What’s wrong with listening to your kid when they call .... Then, tell’em to keep their Chin up, and that you love them .... Then go about Your own business.

I'll take it one step further.... not only can detailers and upperclass access and exploit, so can foreign powers and enemies. I don't see what is being posted on Facebook, but to the parents out there ...your kids are in the Service, may be going into harms way someday, and some may end up as POWS. Don't count on the anonymity of the Internet -- even without the power of the Internet, many of our POW's suffered for simply appearing in public media prior to their capture. Finding and commenting on Waldo may be a game for some, but this is a serious business, with serious consequences.

I'm happy that I grew up and served before the Internet and Social Media....those serving should be the ultimate "gray person", leaving no trace or record of activities. This includes parents. I'm not aware of it happening, but it is not completely unfathomable that terrorists could target servicemembers here in the US.

The day they raised their right hand and were sworn into the Navy.

I would, but my wife is also a part of the group. If I complained there, I'd be on the couch for a week. At least.

Just a week? Your wife must love you very much!

Yes, there are some posts that seem over the the top. And each parent has their own take on what's appropriate (e.g., from whether it's appropriate to show up to PEP on PPW to whether to post a baby picture). But I like the bonding on Facebook of the common experience and for information sharing. To each their own.

Understatement of the summer. By just reading them you'd think that the darlings were ensconced on Devil's Island and subjected to incredibly difficult training instead of what old times are calling a just a bigger version of summer camp what with the barrage of photos, parents showing up for every daily event, the phone calls, the air-conditioning, planning for manicure's and massages in a few weeks.

Yeah, TBH I really don't understand the hand wringing over Plebe Summer. But neither do I understand the hand wringing over social media. It's simply a communication tool. Social media did not event overly protective parents. Maybe it's better that calmer parents can connect with them and talk them down a bit.

Hey all. I'm a c/o '23 plebe currently on parent weekend liberty. I've have some funny name tag experiences. I forgot to put on my name tag one day, so one of my detailers put me on quadruple name tag duty. They called me "plebe admiral"

We saw the plebe with 7 name tags. He's a legend

You’ll be laughing at these stories at your 50th, and when you gather as the Link in the Chain Class for 2073 on their Induction Day.

Best wishes for a strong start to the upcoming ac year, check in with “current mid” insights if you have time.
