USNA Class of 2018 Appointment Thread

The above 26 have physically received the Big Fat Envelope (BFE) with appointment materials for USNA. However, to get an appointment at this stage they also would have had an LOA.

This is not accurate. I have not added DS to list but he has received BFE without an LOA. He received a principal nomination after attending NASS and CVW.

Apologies - I didn't realize that principal noms were also getting the BFE already. So, the list may have a few principal nom appointees, too.

Why haven't you added DS to the list? The original intent of the thread is for all appointees to the class of 2018 regardless of how appointed.

Congrats to DS, by the way! That's fabulous news.
 
Congrats! 2018midmom, must have been an incredible feeling for your son to get the BFE. I must say though that i thought JShawshank was correct until i read your post. I did not realize they were sending appointments out this early without an LOA. Could you possibly shed some light on how you think it came so early and was your DS's principal nom Congressional?
 
Congressional. I haven't added him because there are others in the district who applied and he wanted to make sure heard from the MOC not on the forum. He found out a month ago and I just never came back to this thread. He's thrilled beyond words as this has been his dream.
 
His package was complete including DODMERB/BGO in September. The MOC was quick with his choice and turned in nom quickly. I think that's what sped the process along for him. He had been planning this process for years, got to know our Congressman and was ready day One for NASS app and regular app. Being complete with scores also helped.

Thank you. What is a principal nom? How is this earned by applicants?

Our DD (appointed 2018) had an LOA; however we now have a DS (hopeful 2019) who is preparing for NASS application. I am certain his application process will be different than hers. He also has excellent credentials and attended STEM. Is he eligible for a principal nom? Is having a sibling at the Academy helpful?

I know this thread is for 2018 Appointees, sorry for all the questions. You can pm me if that is better. (or advise me where to look for answers)

I suggest you read the thread I've linked below, it can answer many of your questions. All of this depends on how your local Senators and Congressmen handle their side of the operation as well; I would speak with them to figure it out.

If anyone who received the BFE is willing to give basic stats (SAT/ACT, class rank, ect. ect.), I would greatly appreciate it. I would simply like to see if I'm in the ball park with any of you who have been accepted thus far (I am a current candidate and as the days pass, I become more and more nervous). Thanks so much and congratulation, I know how hard you all must have worked to make your dreams come true.

You and I share similar stats and I received an LOA in August followed by the nom and appointment a little over a month ago. I know it's hard but you will hear back eventually and I would venture to say that you will receive good news. The best thing to do now is to stop worrying about it because there is nothing for you to do right now, it's out of your control and if you accept it you can enjoy the rest of your senior year. How are candidates usually notified that they have received an appointment? I see phone calls from MOC. Is that the usual practice? We are all over the mailbox. Could it be posted on his portal or could he be notified by email? Thanks in advance for your responses!
 
Once USNA decides to offer an appointment, they notify the MOC who gave the nom. If there's more than one nom or if the appointment is Presidential, I'm not sure whom they notify -- my guess is the Rep, but I could be wrong about that.

They give the MOC about a week to notify the candidate if the MOC so chooses. Some do, some don't. MOCs typically call.

At the end of that week (more or less) USNA mails out the BFE. I believe it's via snail mail (not FedEx) but a recent recipient can answer that.

So, you may or may not hear from the MOC. The next notification is in the mail. I think the portal is updated later.
