Glad to see the Class of 2020 gets the chance for a final gathering (in smaller groups) and take the oath together. Not what they had envisioned when they started their 1/C year, but glad they can do this together (sort of). Good luck to 2020!

DS is happy he can get back to the Yard and participate; he said he would take being with 210 buddies vs virtual. Everyone is dissapointed for sure, however, he is already looking at his report station and what he needs to do next. His exams finish tomorrow and he has a happy face right now..... finish line in sight for this step.

Congrats to him and your family MittenMan. It sucks to not get the full experience but I know they are happy to see their buddies again and take their oath together. Glad they were able to make that happen.

Actually a question MittenMan... are they bringing them back by battalion or possibly one company per battalion to keep it lower traffic in each wing?

I hope they are at least doing it by Company...
This will be a year to remember, and I am sure that 2020 will have great stories at their Reunions.
As an aside, does this mean that Members of the Class will have a different date of rank ?
(Sort of kidding, as I am sure that has already been thought of and addressed ! I even suspect that the USAFA class that graduated early will have the date of rank as other Service Academies)

I read in a correspondance that they are bringing back no more than 8 firsties per company at a time.

I believe DS said what '7896 said. Also, everyones official date of rank will be recorded the same day.

Thanks for the info. It would be nice to do as a company but understand with trying to spread the Class out.

MittenMan, congrats on DS! I'm sorry for you and all the other parents not getting to celebrate in Annapolis for graduation this year.
Just curious: Has DS been given a date to report for his new job?

I don't think so. Their date of rank was set on graduation. They are now currently serving officers. It's not uncommon that the SA's graduate on different dates and their "date of rank" or the date of their commission is different. I graduated/commissioned on 1 June...at my commissioning was a classmate of mine from Northwestern Prep who went to USNA. He was in his "Tighty Whities" as he was already an ensign. USNA had graduated May 26th.

DS had basket leave right after graduation, then TAD (Annapolis) until he reports to Pensacola mid-October. All he knows now is his report back to the Yard time; get his stuff and graduate/commission the next day. Basket leave is still on for him, however, the TAD assignment is a bit murky on what/where/when. Interesting times now and forthcoming!

DOR is almost always set to a specific date for the SAs and ROTC so that none get disadvantaged. In the Navy at least, the specific rank between the ROTC and USNA folks is interspersed by OOM so you have the first USNA and first ROTC OOMs then the next USNA and ROTC and so on.

So I’m signed up for the USNA mailing list, and I got an email today about an “Online Presentation and Live Chat.” It says it is an opportunity to ask questions about admissions with the regional counselor, but I am a sophomore and I don’t really have any specific questions and I already have a basic understanding of the process. Does anybody know anything about these sessions and are they worth it?

Same thing for the USMC. All get the same DOR. OOM really gets established more at TBS for us, or at least it used to.

Well...I suppose, to get a definite answer, we'll have to ask USAFA then...I can try to do that.

SECNAVINST 1427.2A: All officers commissioned in May or June will have the same date of rank as the Naval Academy class.

Date of rank does not have to match commissioning date (as it clearly does not for any non-USNA graduates in May and June each year) and can easily be adjusted.

All Mids will sign a NAVPERS 1000/4 that will reflect the actual date of rank regardless of graduation/commissioning date. I expect the NAVPERS 1000/4 will just reflect the same date for the entire class. The date written on the paperwork is the ground truth here, not when you get handed the degree.
