Fairly old youTube USNA recruiting video, cir 1999 pre smart phones and everyone having a laptop. From 2:02 to 3:00 mins into it gives a glimpse of the Admissions process back then. Mix of Navy, Marines and civilians. About 12 to 14 seats at the table and each person has the candidate's application papers in front of them and a block of wood (4X12in). One half is red, the other half is green. If someone approves of the candidate, they put the green part up. A disapprove has the red half on top. Humorous part at 2:19.

But, now that you say it, when touring east coast universities it seems the highest out of state population of students for the schools we've visited is always NJ.

Guess we might be seeing more Pennsylvania and New Yorkers on the board soon. 🙏

NJ has 12 house districts so not really huge but some of the districts are EXTREMELY competitive. In NJ-11 last cycle there were 29 successful applicants to the 3 DoD SAs plus USMMA.
In 2022 -
9 admitted to USNA
17 admitted to USMA
1 admitted to USAFA
2 admitted to USMMA

If you look over the years, seeing high numbers to USNA and USMA is not unusual.

Fascinating video. I just realized that many of those midshipmen were at war just two years later.

My BGO is the area coordinator for my section of NJ, and she mentioned that there were multiple congressional districts of applicants who were supposed to be going up to the admissions board in early February. I predict more NJ appointments soon!
 
Are you still able to update your profile with any achievements? I've recently updated my BGO regarding some new achievements and they said they'll do their best to update my profile. I've heard that this isn't possible due to the fact that admissions have already evaluated the candidate's profile.

My son sent his recently achievements to his area candidate guidance officer. He wrote back immediately and said that they were added to his applicant file. Too bad that he didn’t get a nom, so he likely won’t be going to USNA. We are Maryland, so it’s super competitive. He can hope for the prep school!

I wish the process was more standardized, I sent in my achievements and my officer said they couldn’t be added even back in December because I “already submitted my application”, strange how they can’t be added even before a review has happened for some.
 
I tried to ask my admissions officer if I could redo my personal statement and I never got a response, which figures considering I submitted my application three months ago. Still, I wish I could've put forth a better essay for them to review

Is that the whole of NJ? Or just your area? NJ applicant here so I’m really desperate to hopefully hear some good news soon. Another person from my school got an offer of appointment yesterday

So very true! I've never seen this before! I spotted my husband in the sea trials portion, I think his was the first class that did them. Which meant this was filmed in Spring/Summer '98, or at least some of it. Saw a few others too, too funny. I should make my kid watch this :)

DH was a plebe here and he reported to his first sub THE DAY we started bombing in Iraq. Shortly after many of his company mates were Marines on the ground. W's speech at graduation was the last one before 9/11. Very different world then for sure!

I’m currently reading Brothers Forever. The story of Brendan Looney and Travis Manion. They were at USNA on 9/11. Their commitment and those of many others like them, was for me, more meaningful knowing the world they were walking into.

Considering the times we are in, I appreciate not just my son’s commitment when he signed his 2/7, but all of those who step up and say, as Travis did, “If not me, who?”.

This book cannot be done on Audible while driving. The tears impede vision. Beautiful, and a story worth telling.

Every district is competitive. Whether you are in North Dakota or near Norfolk, VA.
The competitiveness of your application is based on your candidate pool. And that varies with every application cycle.

Stay the course. Be patient. Go for a run. Spend time with family and friends.

I am sure there are plenty. We figure there is about 10+% of a class who posts on the thread their appts. So even if some are posted there, it’s only a fraction.
