USNA Class of 2027 Waiting and Speculating

Since my time to edit closed, I'm reposting to complete the sentence my phone cut off. The proposal writer in me cannot let this error go.

It doesn’t affect it. Your son is competing on his member of Congress slates and in the overall competitive national pool.

Each year students from the same school, congressional district receive appointments.

The academies build in the ‘attrition’ that comes with applicants choosing other academies or paths.

They are taking time to build the best class that they can. It’s a complex jigsaw puzzle and only they know what the finished product will look like.

Just curious, but is it reasonable to ask your representative‘s office about the slate? How many were submitted and if you’re in the primary spot?
I’ve reached out to our representative’s office a couple of times over the past few months, and they were very helpful and gracious with offering what little information they knew.

I would say each office is different. The nom group is typically run by staffers who do this year over year, regardless of who is sitting in the front office. They know the ins and outs of their district/state. Some places do not give principal noms, and I would hazard those that don't aren't typically going to tell you if a kid is ranked on the slate. As stated in the nom sticky thread, there are different ways an MoC can submit their slate. some are very transparent to their constituents. Others are much more closed about it. And some coordinate with the rest of the available ones within their state (Congressmen to the two Senators) to spread the wealth and not give the same person more than one nom.

It certainly can't hurt to ask! My kid's MoCs were on the don't double nominate, spread the wealth, don't rank, don't call if you get an appointment, and not help you much after your nom notification (or denial). :p

The USNA team is the one who would review and approve any waiver. DoDMERB passes things off to them once they have made their DQ determination, hence the reason they can't tell you much more.

I'm not sure how my kid got through to the USNA team, but once he did, he just asked for clarifications as needed. Definitely came in handy for the second round when the same waiver was carried forward for the one issue, but he got DQed (in April) again for a different (non)issue.
Okay, that makes sense and is basically the response he just received from DoDMERB.

We have tried really hard to trust the process and wait, but feel like time is running out on other options.

My DS has been "under waiver review" since January. They have not requested anything, but we have submitted a letter from his specialist stating that he is 100% cleared with no restrictions and the issue was 3 years ago. Our DS is a recruited athlete and the not knowing is really hard especially since plan B coach has kind of lost interest because it wouldn't be fair for him to commit to them when he doesn't have an answer to his first choice. Is it normal for the waiver process to take this long?
I know it is so hard! we know a couple people that did not get an appointment and were recruited athletes 2 years ago. Hopefully the waiver will come through and he will be fine - my daughter was recruited too so I know your fear, that there are no other options left from other schools that moved along with their recruitment - hang in there and I hope and pray his waiver gets approved. Does he have an LOA?

No he does not have an LOA...he received two nominations and was told by one that he was the primary however my understanding is that our state does not submit their nominations that way. We have not seen any appointments (other than one re applicant) for our state yet or heard of any in our area.

They will wait because they will try and give you a nomination from the national pool or another source.
Be careful here, @Wishingwhale123. Just because a candidate didn’t win a MOC’s slate — assuming the MOC uses the principal-nom method — doesn’t mean it’s necessary to “find” them a nom just because the principal nominee won offer of appointment. That candidate’s nom, if they have one, is still valid and good. Each year, multiple candidates from a single MOC slate receive offers. There is no “national pool” of noms. There are a handful of noms controlled by the SA, but the recipients are very few and far between.

To expand on this a bit, even if a Principal Nominee was designated, offered an appointment AND accepted it does not mean that USNA can not make offers of admission to additional nominees from the slate. After all of the various nominating slates have been decided, USNA is authorized to bring in additional nominees to bring the class up to the desired (and authorized) size.

Oh wow! That's awesome!

He reached out a couple of weeks ago to the DoDMERB help desk email and inquired about the process. The response he received was very basic. So today he reached out again and asked "where" he is in the process and if they might be able to give him an idea of "when" his case might be processed. Is there a different contact for USNA medical team specifically?
PM me and I can send you the emails for the USNA Medical Waiver Authority

The calm before the storm... Thursday's coming. The board meets very soon! Good luck to all of us folks watching and waiting!

I try not to let myself get too excited about that because we still have to wait for it to go through the other channels AND the MOC gets a few days. I used to wait on Thursdays at noon...like staring at the phone in the old days when people had phones. LOL! But it seems like it can really be any time depending on whether the MOC calls or the portal changes or a waiver comes through. Any time...like...NOW? Or now!...maybe now?

Would the MOC know before the portal reflects the decision ?

Oh, I hear you... Just trying to have some fun with it. If my DS gets an appmnt, it would be a major blessing, but I'm banking on a late addition if I was a betting man (which I'm not). Hope everyone here sees the miracle they need!

They are required to give the MOC a few days to tell you first before they update your portal or send an email. But your MOC may or may not tell you. My son's nomination came from someone who lost her primaries and is no longer in office so I'd be shocked if he heard from her.
