USNA Class of 2027 Waiting and Speculating

Has anyone received their results back from DODMERBS and still have a x next to there medial review on their portal.

Our DD received an email from DODMERB saying for her to log on to the portal for important information - she was fully qualified. The USNA portal did not have the DODMERB check until the following afternoon.

My son is SO MUCH better at this than I am! His application was done in August, passed CFA in June at NASS and DoDMERB cleared in early Sept. So it's been nothing but wait since then!! The little spark of joy when he got the nom in late November but another dry 2 months since. I think part of the problem is I work at a computer most of the day so it's really easy to say "oh, I'll just pop on and check really quick" whereas he's busy in school and swim and life and doesn't even have access to his portal most of the day. I think the hardest part for me is all of the things I have had to decide not knowing. Dumb example but his Disney World annual pass expired on Dec 21st and with the 30 day grace period, I still had to decide whether or not to renew it without knowing if he got in. It may seem silly, but they're not cheap and you currently cannot buy them unless you are renewing. So giving it up means he can't get one again but paying for it is silly if he can't use it. Same for scheduling summer things with my other 2 kids. These are the things I have to think about while my 17 year old is blissfully unconcerned.😂

Still...with applications closing, now every week that passes is going to be harder. Before it was easy to say "well, they're still getting applicants" but now we know it's crunch time. Here is hoping we all get some good news soon!!!!!
Planning summer vacations (or holidays or long weekends) are always going to be complicated from now on. We are still on hold to see how the “summer blocks” are going to workout I hope you don’t hv to purchase that Disney annual pass again

Ah, those dreaded First World problems. The horror, the horror! 😬

Someday, should he attend USNA and then proceed to AD, you’ll look back at this “dilemma” and probably roll your eyes. What’s the old Yiddish saying, “Man plans, God laughs.” When it comes to things academy and military, God laughs twice as hard. 😉

Semper Gumby. Always flexible.

Some of you wont find out until May (🙋‍♀️ like one of mine did!). It could even be June!!

100 more days (give or take).

3 more months.

12 weeks.

A quarter of a year.

Focus on plan B. Don’t leave that until later. Plan dorms. Pick roommates. Buy a sweatshirt. Figure out food plans. Don’t let the rest of your senior be consumed with this. You don’t get a do-over!! It’s out of your control. Put it on the back burner, and be present in the end of your K-12 career with your classmates (and parents!!) that you will be saying ‘see ‘ya later’ as you move on to the next chapter of your life.

Don’t let this process consume you. The reality, is that many (most??) of our posters here will be turned away this time. There simply isn’t enough room.

Treat Plan B, as Plan A, and then maybe a nice little surprise will pop up one day.

DD was in this position last year and we were notified on May 19 that she was off waitlist and headed to Foundation . It can be a very, very long process . DD held it together until April and then the stress of not knowing was beginning to affect her. Listening to advice here , we both got off the forums , stopped obsessively checking the portal , concentrated on her Plan B which she was excited about , planned an early June vacation after graduation and she focused on the many senior high school events she had coming up . I will say I thought we both were handling things pretty well until that call from USNA in May . She completely broke down sobbing after she got off the phone and the kid is not a crier at all. I couldn’t understand why she was crying when she had received the “golden ticket”. She told me it was because it was a relief to have an answer at last . Keep busy (parents and candidate), focus on the memories you are making now and start getting excited about Plan B and C just in case . Good luck !

This is exactly what we’ve decided to do. My DS accepted an AROTC Scholarship to The Citadel this week and we’ve made a deposit and will proceed with all the paperwork. He’s cleared dodmerb for both USNA and AROTC. We still have VMI, Norwich and UNG acceptances as emergency backups. Feeling much more relaxed this week. My DS is spending time looking at clubs and intramural sports at The Citadel and is excited. Stress level has decreased significantly.

As hard as it is to hear, there is nothing more you can do. Try not to stress about it. The majority of candidates hear back sometime in March. Prior appointment threads should reflect that.

Do some PT to work off the stress, and enjoy time with friends and family, it is fleeting. DS has said more than once that he would love to have spent more time making some fun memories with us prior to reporting for IDay. But, with Covid being what it was, we couldn't go somewhere and have vacation memories. We opted to have a group 'shave his head' BBQ instead.

Hang in there, and tend to all alternate plans, and stay healthy.
What is a group “shave his head” bbq? Friends and fam literally taking turns on shaving his head? 😝

I know the future years are always going to be complicated but this year there are a lot of "lasts" and if we've already had our last family vacation because he got in, that's well worth giving that up. But if he doesn't get in, you know this mama is going to want one last vacation with all her boys before he goes off to whatever life has planned for him.

What do you mean by “lasts”

I decided to take my DS on a trip over spring break because of the uncertainty of the summer. I let him pick the destination. I was hoping for something tropical. Headed to Lisbon, Prague and Dresden March 10-17. 🤨🥶

I was hoping to but their dad wanted spring break and I couldn't really say no because he hasn't taken them on vacation in a while.
