USNA Class of 2027 Waiting and Speculating

DS got the 4 year NROTC scholarship to VA Tech (his first choice). We dropped our deposit too. He’s excited even though we’re waiting for an appointment offer that seems beyond reality if it comes to pass. He found our last night he was accepted to GA Tech so that pumped his confidence and provided another option. He will bloom wherever he is planted. His hard work has provided some outstanding choices. His mom and I told him long ago to study hard and focus so he could have options. So glad he listened.

Congrats to your DS on a few excellent back up choices. This is right where we are. It’s exciting refreshing the portals to reveal acceptances and scholarship and celebrate the doors her hard work has opened. It goes a long way to boost confidence as peers share plans and she waits, and waits, and waits.

I love all these positive posts!! Everyone is right!! Our super kids will grow gang busters seriously anywhere! I just hope it can be the USNA for my DS and all of yours too! He felt much better when he got the acceptance to RPI in Nuclear Engineering; he loved the NROTC Director there (former sub captain) and it’s a great program. I know he’ll do well there and be happy in that NROTC. Let’s keep up the hope and positive vibes everybody!!!:)

This week we too added the deposit to "Plan B" housing, which unlocked the merit scholarship fully funding four years study in aerospace engineering at Arizona State University. And today, after much preparation, our son became a Master Mason at the Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania. Persistent growth in character development, knowledge, and service are the hallmarks of a purpose-driven life.

Good luck to all & Goooooo Navy!!

DS has been medically cleared by the allergist Mar 01. The medical facility said they faxed the report to DODMERB, but DODMERB says they have yet to receive it.

DS informed BGO and USNA admissions office and updated them since he has a LOA and has satisfied all the requirements.

What do we do at this point. Do we continue to wait or can we request another medical appointment with another allergist (private doctor) and fax the report over to DODMERB?

We don't mind the wait, its jus that I am not familiar with the process.

Can you follow up with his medical report/fax? Confirm it was sent? With your sons information clear? Resend it? Sounds like that’s the missing piece.

My DS has his backup plan of University of Pittsburgh NROTC unless we get the big honor of USNA…he would give anything to race on the offshore sailing team at NAVY. It’s been his goal for the past five years. He’s been teaching sailing in the summers and racing dinghies on the Great Lakes his whole life. He loves everything about the Navy…and all roads lead to him serving after school. I guess we will just keep biting our nails!!!!

My best friend went to U Pitt. Great school. Our DD has 4 year NRTOC (Marine Corps) option and NCAA marksmanship recruitment/scholarship to VMI. She’s wanted USNA since she was in 6th grade so we are doing our fair share of nail biting right along with you! Hopefully we all hear something in the next 3 weeks while we still have any nails to bite, lol.

My DS got notified of his award NROTC Scholarship late Friday. Secured his Plan B. Can he accept that and decline later if he gets his first choice of the USNA? Like, do people do that? Is it allowed? Wond'ring aloud.

DD had signed to swim with VMI. Went into college decision day with VMI hoodie because everyone kept telling her “no one comes off waitlist for USNA” . She did on May 19th. She still keeps in touch with several “rats “ at VMI . We were very impressed with VMI . Good luck to your DD!

Absolutely yes, he can do that. And yes, people do it. Not uncommon.

My DS has accepted his ROTC Scholarship while we wait on USNA. I think many people have as a plan B.

Lol! Two weeks ago I paid the housing deposit at DD’s plan B at ASU. The next day, her waiver was granted and an appointment came later in the week. Hopefully the same thing happens for your son!

Yep, DS had to accept his ROTC scholarship by March 4, so he did so. His ROTC guy really pushed for him at USC admissions, but he understands his first priority is an SA. He encouraged DS to accept his scholarship knowing he would later decline it if he got into USNA or USMA. It happens every year and is not unusual.

same here. My DS accepted his NROTC scholarship and his POC knows he is in the wait for SA appointment. We will also accept at non ROTC schools and proceed with deposits until we know the end game. Cost of doing business is the way we look at it.

Who else from Louisiana is on here that is either currently attending or has been recently appointed to the Naval academy. I got my appointment in January.
