USNA Class of 2027 Waiting and Speculating

OK, I'll step up here. As gets said here a lot, you are overthinking/overanalyzing.

If nobody from an MOC's slate gets in, then that "slot will go unfilled and NO, that does not mean that they'll necessarily have TWO
slots the next cycle as they'll work to keep at least one "slot" for every year into the future and if they use "this year's slot" next year then when "2030" applications go in, that MOC will have zero slots available.
.
An MOC slot not getting used does not mean that there will be one fewer person in the class. The way that the classes at all of the DOD
academies are filled is that AFTER all of the MOC and other slots are filled, the individual academies are allowed to bring in additional
NOMINATED candidates to bring the class up to its authorized strength.
How does this work for discretionary noms (VP, Superintendent, etc.)?

I explained I was married with five children. An extremely happy wife, 1 boy and 4 girls. As you can all probably imagine I am in complete control of all things things under my roof….when nobody is home.
That’s pretty funny 😆. I love some good wholesome self-awareness!

DS continues to play it cool, DH continues to be passive as he’s perfected the art of hurry up and wait, and I continue to stress about all of the above for everyone - college, when the orders will be cut, 45 million things to be done to move overseas and when our house will sell (it’s been on the market for 2 days lol). BUT *trying* very hard to let it all go since we just arrived at Disney World for spring break and our last vacation with DS as a “kid” - cruise starts Monday! Time for an overpriced drink! ☀️🌴🛳️🍹

(However passive, that won’t stop DH from paying for the internet package at sea to track all of the above 😜)

“How does this work” - not clear on what you are asking. If you go look at the annual appointment threads, you’ll get a broad sense of when certain nom categories start to appear.

Think of the different categories of noms as buckets. Candidates are encouraged to apply for as many nom categories for which they are eligible. Let’s say they are eligible for a Presidential nom, submit the paperwork, and the nom appears in their portal. Perhaps a couple of hundred applicants are eligible for and receive that nom. 100 appointments can be charged to that nom category. In each of their the Presidential nom buckets, the three DoD SAs can find and evaluate 100 fully qualified candidates for who will eventually have their appointments charged there. A candidate might compete in several buckets at once. When the smoke clears, if they are fully qualified and the SA wants them, an appointment will be offered and charged to one of the nom categories. As each bucket resolves, appointments are accepted, the nom team inside Admissions is keeping very careful track. At least once each cycle I post an image of the Star Trek 3D chess board in multiple tiers. Think of that.

Let’s 👏 Go 👏 April 👏

March is always the worst month but March in the context of waiting for your kid’s dreams to come true… oof. Ready for April!

My son has a wonderful Plan B: NROTC 4-year with his 1st choice battalion, studying engineering at a school he liked a lot. He even has a Plan C locked down in case of an injury that precludes him from doing NSI this summer: our state university’s School of Engineering, where he would then ask to be a college programmer and try to rejoin NROTC for a 3-year. And I’m pretty sure his Plan D is hiking the Appalachian Trail with his brother and then enlisting. ;)

My point is all his roads lead to Naval service.

Waiting is nerve wracking for me. But he knows his ultimate goal. He is focusing on controlling what he can and preparing hard, and we are trusting in God and USNA admissions to handle the rest!

I can honestly sit here and say my son is one of the smartest and most honorable people I’ve ever known. He is the kid everyone trusts and listens to yet I have never one time heard him brag. And if USNA selects another man or woman as more qualified than he is, then I’m even more proud of our Navy for being the best of the best.

There is no losing here! If he gets turned down I refuse to see it as a loss if an EVEN more stellar candidate is heading to USNA.

It is out of his hands at this point, and he will land where he is meant to land.

Good luck to all still waiting! 🙏

After yesterday's news of my son being offered the 4 year NROTC scholarship, I am feeling much better about the rest of this wait. USNA is still his first choice, but now we know that his dream of Navy is going to happen either through the door, or the window. But he'll get there. For the first time in about 7 or 8 months, I feel content that his path will take him where it needs to.

Now April, be kind to us all! March was ugly!

My son just got his 4 year NROTC email!!!!! I am so happy!!! This is exactly what I needed this stressful crazy tornado-infested Friday. NOW we can feel good about Plan B!!!!!!!!!!
I feel you and Congratulations! With an appointment to AFA, and an NROTC scholarship in hand and acceptance to top school choice, we can't complain. Alas, the heart wants what the heart wants. Makes the waiting easier though.

Capt MJ, thank you for the great information you have given to this forum. At the link that you shared I noticed on page 9, it speaks about children of 100% percent disabled veterans. Does this mean I have a different avenue for appointment since my father is a 100% disabled veteran?

It’s a nom source, not competitive in the sense that if you have the supporting documentation, you are eligible for and will be given the nomination. Of course, you still have to be found fully qualified: medical/DoDMERB, physical/CFA and scholastic/academics + all other evaluated elements.

Your father should have a letter from the VA that certifies his disability status, or other docs. You can always call Admissions, your primary official source, to ask questions or confirm what they need.

Here is the usna.edu link, another primary source:

Are you a 2027 applicant, still in the hunt, qualified medically and CFA? You could call Admissions, ask if you could submit the request and required docs for this nom, recognizing the application date is long past, noting you were unaware of the category and your father’s eligibility. It’s an administrative action for them. You never know until you ask.

If you’re a 2028 applicant, definitely add that to your 2 Senators, Rep and VP nom application action list.

How are you notified of your appointment to USNA?
1. By your member of congress....if they choose to do it; not required
2. Your portal will change and there will be an "Appointment offer" with an accept/decline tab to select.
3. An email from Office of Admission will come and it will have "USNA Application Decision" (maybe this is the same title if they reject the applicant).
4 You will receive an BFE.

My kid's was #2.

Does anyone know if there be a large amount of appointments near April 15th or if appointments will trickle out slowly until then and then a bunch of TWEs go out?

I was looking at last years thread and there were a few appointments in the weeks leading up on SAF and then about ten or so twe’s all on April 11th. Then a few folks got NAPS/foundation appointments and then all the rest landed on the infamous Waitlist….whereupon quite a few ended up getting appointments. Unfortunately, those came in the middle of May. This was just last year…I didn’t look at other years. I’m sure the experts will say each year is different…but just to have some sense of recent history.
