USNA Class of 2027 Waiting and Speculating

Where we are (Howard County), it is historically in the range of 4th - 6th "richest" counties in the country. The top ones are predominantly DC suburbs.

Yeah, lots of money. Lots of privelaged kids. And lots of pretentious pr--ks. :p
Thats wild! 3 of the top 6 in the COUNTRY feed students into our school. But we're not in any of those. Never realized that, very interesting. And yes, lots of pr--ks 😆 ETA 4 of the top 7 actually.

I liken this process to a novelist that has written, rewritten, refined, changed, edited, formatted, reedited, wiped the slate, rewrote again, and reformatted, and then finally just says - "that's all I can do to this book, page, and paragraph, I just need to publish this thing..." My kid all but threw in the towel last night and I got to say it about broke my heart. It's really his dream and I know he's has to live it his way. It was really tough to watch him shrug off any last chance to communicate about his drive, effort and enthusiasm about his #1 school. I love his comfort with being "done" with the process, but at the same time it was a bit heart breaking.

Still hoping for positive outcomes to this journey! Fingers crossed for everyone here! May the road treat you all well.
I so feel for you and your son. It’s such a rollercoaster. We met an alum at an action shooting match here back in the fall. We have one scheduled for the 15th. The other day DD looked at me with terror in her eyes and said,”what do I say if I don’t get in???” It was heartbreaking.

Same here for 2nd congressional district in Colorado. We’ve heard that most in our area are interested in USAFA, so we’re hanging our hope on that!
Hello from CO District 1! Have you heard of any appts? We know of two, and then there one posted here, still listed as undecided… holding on to the same hope that the USAFA is the more sought -after option out here!! Sending good thoughts to your applicant!! 🤞😊

Ok…. We are “those people” who called admissions again. Just got told:
1. If you are still CPR they have not done final review yet (which everyone on here Already knew) but that almost everyone is scheduled over the next couple of days (And btw admissions is open on Saturday, so April 15 into 16 decision notification is not out of the question)
2. They asked for DD candidate number (I called at her request because she’s at school). They looked her up and confirmed she is scheduled for review this week and will know something by April 15.
3. They reconfimred that YES turned down, naps, foundations, waitlist and appointments are all still on the table.
4. If you are declined and want to reapply, that application for class of ‘28 opens…. April 16 🤪 and college students should go on the website and look at Plebe class requirements and align their classes as much as possible.

DD is understandably really stressing and bracing for a turned down, but is also resolved that no matter what, an answer allows us to move forward with a plan... whatever plan that is. Hang in there everyone. Collective deep breath….

Before our time here is done, I think the thing I would like to share today so that the next year's waiters and speculators can see it when they are where we are is this:

I know it says April 15th and everyone said "expect it to be April 15th and not sooner" and I heard those words and saw those dates. I promise you I felt the same way you do right now. My child gets exceptional grades and is athletic and active and a strong candidate. Surely, USNA will see him and send him an offer as soon as we see that nomination hit. Maybe he'll even get a LOA because I read about those and he's such a strong candidate that I am SURE they will give him one. Of course they will! So yes, April 15th is what they SAY but my child is special. Unfortunately, all 16K of us have exceptional children. And then you think, okay, he got a nomination so NOW he'll surely hear from them any day now. Now it's just 5K or so and obviously he's going to get that offer now. Okay maybe not until after the holidays because they are busy. Well, okay obviously they want to wait for the Jan 31 application date to close so they know who they have. Of course, but beginning of Feb for sure. I mean, but some states are still sending their nomination slates so maybe another week but since ours went in November, I'm sure they will do ours first. Like for sure by March we will know for sure. And obviously he hasn't been turned down yet so they probably just haven't worked on his slate yet. They are saving our state...oh look, there's 2 appointments from my state, but they aren't the same district so obviously they'll do ours next. I mean, there's NO WAY it will go into April. Why would it? They have everything they need. And here we are on April 12th still CPR. How could he still be CPR this late when he had everything in by September like his BGO told him to and got a nomination earlier than most people? How can this be? Does it mean they MIGHT want him? Does it mean they haven't gotten to his slate yet? Does it mean they already sent an offer and our MOC isn't going to call. I better check the portal again every hour to see. BTW, that update time just means the system refreshed and has nothing to do with your candidate. And when the withdrawn button disappears, it also doesn't mean anything. But go get an 8 ball. Trust me, you won't regret that! Let me just check that portal one more...yeah...CPR...April 12th. 3 more days. Or maybe more, or less, or another month. Or in an hour. This is your life now. Buckle up because it's a bumpy wait. Tend to your Plans B through Q even though when other people tell you to do that, you know they are crazy because your child is exceptional and will get that offer early. Just in case, take care of the back up plans if for no other reason than to give you something else to do other than refresh the portal.

Paid the deposit at Plan B school last night. I was hoping dropping $500 would trigger a decision from USNA. Sadly no affect at all. 😂 still CPR here too.
This made me laugh. Travel and hotel booked for re-visit with alt. school/team for this weekend, was hoping to cancel. With this limbo, we may even need to finally buy the sweatshirt.🤣

I told my son I would happily pay and lose the $250 if it meant he got his USNA offer and he still wants me to hold off another couple of days. It's his life but man I want to pay that deposit.

2 months ago my DS got a signed photo from his Senator saying “Good luck at USNA!” and then a nice folder with his appointment which was great. But he is still CPR on the website. What I am saying is that still seeing CPR isn’t all bad. Until you see a “Turned Down” you’re still in the mix. My son went to college and reapplied, he said it was the best thing that happened to him.

So you just have a listening device in my head then. Got it. 😂

He’s actually very happy with the Plan B school. I’m sure if he gets a turned down, he will be sad about that door closing, but Plan B is a great option. We had to do the deposit now in order to get into the housing portal when it opens this weekend. And although the school is great they have had some pretty major housing constraint issues the past few years, so we willing to eat the $500 if we have to, to make sure he has a bed (preferably in a room) 😂

That's interesting data for North Carolina. 8 seems to be a lot. Not good for my DS.
Last year NC came in low and late reporting. This year from our district alone there were multiple recruited athletes and NAPS students in the nomination pool, a much larger amount than you would think for a small-ish district. I feel like it's kind of been an unusually brutal year for NC applicants, at least from the nomination point of view.
