USNA Class of 2027 Waitlist: Team Hopeful

Plan the vacation! We have a big trip scheduled that I have been planning (& still in the process). I am so grateful for the distraction with the stress of waiting until April 15th. Now that we are on the waitlist, I am so glad that my son has something fun to look forward to. This has been a long challenging journey, but we are honored to be considered. I just hate when a well meaning friend or family member asks DS his college plans. His friends have been posting their acceptance letters for months while we go to interviews and medical exams. Now he may not even know until after graduation. At least now when they ask what are you doing after graduation, he can say he is going on vacation!

I read an article not too long ago about the pressures of “having to know” what you are doing, where you are going to school, ect for seniors who are still just trying to figure it all out themselves. It was so eye opening on so many levels for me. Now I just ask kids “what fun things do you have planned after graduation” They can decide what plans they want to share. And I totally get the importance of it now, after having 5000 people ask if DS “has heard yet?” It’s like a mini pressure cooker.

I believe (and I trust others can confirm or correct) the mandate for the DOD SAs is maximum 4400 mids/cadets, maximum 1200 per class. The incoming class of 1170 suggests less-than-expected attrition in the upper classes. I say “suggests” because there can be other reasons and I don’t know for sure. It could be something as simple as year-to-year variance within an expected range.

Thanks for the insight, that makes sense. For some reason I had 4,800, but the 4,400 number makes sense.

DS just returned from overnight with his 1st choice NROTC 4 year scholarship school (VA Tech Corps of Cadets ) and loved it. Much better experience than his USNA CVW with a Midshipman who was quite verbal on his unhappiness in being there and wanting to be at the USAFA (his 1st choice). DS said he was doubting his choice for the USNA based on that and other vibes he got while he was there. Summer Seminar prior to that had him motivated and ready to go. He's been operating his plan B as his Plan A - deposit, NSI prep, etc. He potentially will have a hard choice to make if he gets an appointment but either will be excellent choices.

Annual passes return April 20th. With two of my three kids (and the grands) in Florida, Disney passes are a must for us. Your son can make up the cost of his passes by getting rooms at Shades of Green, the military resort on Disney property. Disney resort rooms for a Holiday Inn price. It’s one of the best kept secrets there.

We're DVC so we can buy them tomorrow! I'm holding off to see what happens with him though. The rest of us are Incredipass holders. He was until his expired a couple of months ago. The other awesome military benefit is DCL for about half the price and available on a last minute basis.
