There was one mentioned received. Don't recall where but poster chose to not list on the DIY thread apparently.I wonder when we will hear of the first appointment offer? I thought we would see one by now.

Yes, I think it was a Presidential appointment. There was one mentioned received. Don't recall where but poster chose to not list on the DIY thread apparently.
I remember last year, we saw a VP nom and the candidate turned it down. Of course their choice, but man it stings to see 1 of the 5 unicorns bolt the barn and not get used. You would think that admissions would be a little more certain that it was going to be used if they used one of those UNO cards. The USNA website encourages all candidates to apply for the VP nom. It’s open to all. VP staff has no hands-on role. USNA manages the selection. Five appointments may be charged to this nom authority. Based on what we have seen here in the annual appointments thread, VP noms tend to be given late in the cycle. A working theory is they are given to candidates they want but who were unable to obtain a nom. But someone always gets them!
IIRC correctly, the first 10 reported last year were all Presidential except for one Superintendent Nomination.Yes, I think it was a Presidential appointment.
You don’t know who that VP nom was ultimately charged to. Just BC that candidate declined their appointment, doesn’t mean no one was charged to “their” VP nom.I remember last year, we saw a VP nom and the candidate turned it down. I didn't apply to NASS mostly because my parents were pretty adamant about me missing school, but I kinda feel like that sounds like an excuse? I also live in WA so it also would have been a little inconvenient travel wise. I did visit the academy over the summer on a trip to the east coast.Totally different things. There are tons who don't go, or didn't even apply to the summer stuff, that get appointments. NASS is a marketing tool.
*Most* of an appointed class did not attend NASS. And IDK the percentage, but many who do attend NASS are not offered appointments.I didn't apply to NASS mostly because my parents were pretty adamant about me missing school, but I kinda feel like that sounds like an excuse? My DS class of 23 first time at USNA was I Day, hope that helps….I have a gut feeling that because I didn't go to summer seminar or do something in that vein my chances are gonna be slim...
And welcome new member of just over 24 hours!Yes, DD did apply for VP nom. Her BGO HIGHLY encouraged it. That encouragement came before she got her LOA, FWIW. DD is also a recruited athlete, which was part of the BGO VP nom discussion. I'm new to all of this, so I don't know how this all plays together.
Every SA recommends applying for all num sources available to you. More noms, means more flexibility for the SA to offer an appointment.
I hope that your nomination, along with family, will be the perfect reason for giving thanks this Thanksgiving Day and beyond.Hey guys! Haven’t posted in a while, but I got some exciting news this week. I was medically qualified, and I think my first nomination interview went really well. I was told that I would know about my nomination status by Thanksgiving, so that’s coming soon. The nomination is the last thing I need to fulfill my LOA requirements. Crossing my fingers, and good luck to the rest of you all!
Don’t lose sight of your goal or let doubt creep in. Insecurity breeds insecurity. You don’t know the intangibles. You need to remember that they are building a whole person candidate class. Not all are team captains. Not all had 4.0s or 35 ACTs.I'm feeling weirdly trepidated by this experience. I have a gut feeling that so many people are better than I am and that there's gods applying when I'm a mere mortal, since I'm not like an all-state athlete or anything along those lines. Just means I'll have to do whatever I can, though. Not gonna give up, I got a shot and I'll make it count.
I’ve posted here, often, that imo one of the pitfalls of this amazing SAF, are people reading the amazing resumes and thinking ‘wow, I’m not good enough’.I'm feeling weirdly trepidated by this experience.
