USNA CVW

Can I ask how far along with your application you two are? I am a 2019 candidate also, and am wondering if I may not have received an invite due to not being far enough along on my application. Thanks.

Ive only started on teacher recommendations and I got the invite too. I dont think it has to do with how far along you are on the application.

Grizzly, how far are you on the application? Have you received an "official candidate" letter yet?

I have completed 4 out of the 8 items. According to my BGO, I should hear from DODMERB soon. I am very interested in doing a CVW, so am hopeful that I will receive an invitation to one this fall. :thumb:

DD has finished all (just found out she was medically qualified today) except her BGO interview (its the first part of next month) and hasn't heard anything about a cvw. She would love to go, but with 2 Mid siblings, not sure if she will get an offer. I don't know the rhyme or reason to who gets offered cvws. My oldest was offered one, but it conflicted with football so he didn't go, he went to NASS and was already convinced its where he wanted to be. DD1 wasn't offered and didn't request one. They both ended up at USNA, so don't fret or worry if you aren't offered one.

I was invited to one today as well. It's a great opportunity, I went to one last year!

I have the math letter in, my activities record, dodmerb (from last year) and personal data record. I also sent in my transcript.

You can request a CVW if you don't get the invite. Email your admissions counselor and just ask. DS did get an invite last year but it was months after his app was complete (including BGO interview). He went during sequestration and really didn't get to see/do much but is now a plebe. It should be a good time to see academy life up close.

DS (reapplying) just go an unsolicited invite. He went to a CVW last year, so no real need to go this year.

Just to reiterate, a CVW is a "good sign" but by no means an indication of your chances of getting in. As my son found out (along with a lot of other young men and women), you can go to NASS, a CVW, end up triple qualified, go into April and longer -- and the numbers still can play against you. This last year was crazy that way. :)

Agree with the above post.

The reason to do CVW is to help you decide if USNA is a good fit for you. It offers a different perspective than NASS. This time of year is especially good in terms of seeing what things are like for plebes before everything eases up.

Being offered a CVW means you are a competitive candidate; it does NOT mean you will receive an appointment. Deciding not to accept an invitiation to CVW will NOT hurt your chances -- USNA recognizes that some people simply cannot attend due to costs, time contraints or other reasons.

I received a CVW Invite as well. I went last year and had a wonderful time. However, I thought they didn't invite college reapplicants. I guess I was wrong.

I got a CVW invite as well. I went to a CVW after applying to NASS in Feb of this year, so I don't really need to go again. If you haven't gone its a great opportunity and really solidified me wanting to go to USNA.

Last year as a HS senior I was invited to one 4 days after I submitted my preliminary app; I had no parts completed yet. Unfortunately I went during the government shutdown AND Air Force weekend. Interesting time

UPDATE: Just checked my email and it seems like I got another invite this year for a CVW. Interesting because I am a college reapplicant.

I received a CVW invite this past Monday and wil be attending the weekend of September 18-20! Hope to see some of you there! :)

On a CVW do you get paired up with a plebe?
Yes, and you will affectionately be referred to as a "Drag" (because that's what your Plebe is assigned to do to you as he/she goes about his/her schedule during your visit)

Is there anyone here who sent in a requested session but have not received a confirmation email yet? :(
