Hello I am homeschooled, and I will applying to the USNA class of 2022. I was looking at the USNA requirements for homeschoolers, and one of the requirements was that the home Schools graduation certificate, needs to be accepted by the state school board, so I emailed the administration of my school, so I got an email back from them and it's not accepted by the State school board. So this Today I switched to a new home school that is accepted by the state school board, but since it's the middle of the year, i have to retake my Junior year starting and I start Monday but finish all my work until September. I was wondering if I can still apply in may or June. should I contact USNA Admission, And ask them what I should do about it?

Yes, you should definitely contact admissions so that they can clarify this issue, and so it doesn't end up being a bigger problem come spring when it is time to apply.

Also, Start your application over the summer. Get everything completed and then finalize it in Sept when you finish your junior year. Submitting a complete application in September will still be very early and it will not have any effect on you chance of an appointment.

From USNA admissions website:

"Be sure to let us know if your school is recognized by your local school board or the State Board of Education. Homeschooled students must provide a transcript and, as a minimum, the transcript must include the following academic information: . . .
  • Course/Class title
  • Length of course and date completed
  • Grade and Grading scale
  • Cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA)
  • Curriculum/Course description
  • Text/materials used"

My DS is homeschooled, a junior, and plans on applying to the USNA. So, I have been researching this. He doesn't need the school board to verify his transcript. The USNA website lists the steps needed if you do NOT have a recognized transcript. I have completed an expanded transcript to accompany his typical transcript. I cannot understand why you would need to repeat your Junior year.

In many states, the local school board or the State Board of Ed DOES NOT have a legal right to to recognize/not recognize a homeschool transcript. They simply have no authority over homeschooled students. So there should be no need for you to go through any extra hoops. Just submit a very detailed transcript.

My son is at USMA and was homeschooled. I submitted a transcript that was many pages long. The first page was the typical one page transcript. The rest of the transcript included all awards earned, work history, outside activities (including sports) and then very detailed course descriptions for every high school class he took.

Thank you so much. But I read all the stuff on the USNA website and I couldn't find anything about what to do if your school is not recognized by the state board. so I looked online everywhere, and everytime I would ask someone they said that it need to be accepted by the state school board. But the reason I have to retake my junior year is because the school
I switched to makes you take that grade if you didn't finish all your work.

Call the academy and ask what you needs to be done if your school is not recognized. See if they have additional information that would be helpful of you are home schooled.
