Nifty photos. I can't however, get past half way. Is this a Washington Post thing?

Just keep pressing the little arrow. I tested it both on original link in Safari and Chrome, and after I posted the link. You’ll see 1-8, an ad, press arrow in same place, then 9-16.

I was on iPhone the entire time, which may or may not matter. I do 99% of my SAF visits by iPhone.

Ok one of the first things I asked my Plebe was about the carts, told him how the old timers like to poke fun- he said the carts are just for show- when they leave processing and cross to the outside to get to their "rooms" they use them- parents tend to line up there in front of the mid store to catch a glimpse of their plebe- as soon as they cross and are back in the other building out of sight the carts are forfeited.

...and Waldo hunting has begun. Work productivity for Plebe Parents is about to take a big hit.

For new Plebe Parents, it seems like forever until PPW but in a few years you'll look back and wonder where the time went and it will seem like the blink of an eye. Just don't ever say that to your Mid...

Please don't try to sugar-coat it. It's just plain obscene! Nimitz must be rolling in his grave.

We're all laughing in our forums how you Navy boys are catering to the Millennials:

^^ I agree. In prior years they used school buses to transport the plebes across the yard to keep the process moving and no one made an issue out of that. As mentioned in several other threads, the carts were necessary since on-site construction prevented the use of buses.

Nothing wrong with the buses. It would have been significantly, more respectable if they just loaded their sacks onto a flatbed/truck and simply walked from point A to B without anything to carry! Do you Navy folks know how silly your kids look toting those carts????

By the way, it's not just my folks talking about it; it's your own folks as well (USNA Alumni Class Pages). These very same, lame justifications are being stated, and your grads aren't liking it either.

We're having a ball with this on our end! Thanks!

The same construction that doesn't allow them to run busses means they can't run trucks between Alumni and Bancroft.

And the grads that don't like it were not there, the carts made it possible for I-Day to run smoothly despite the construction. The plebes still had to carry the bags up the stairs and through Bancroft like they have always done.

What about setting up in-processing stations at Brown or Halsey Field House(s) or Dahlgren Hall??? Closer to Bancroft.

I don't know. Figure something else out!

Why? So West Pointers and old grads don't complain about stuff they don't know about?

I-day is always in alumni, it's a system that works and takes a huge logistical and planning effort. There is no reason to move it when a simple solution like using carts is there.

Nice! I knew you Navy folks lacked creativity/ingenuity.

Back in the days, we used to do the initial parents/candidate Brief at the Holleder Center near Michie Stadium followed by a bus ride to Arvin Gym for the rest of in-processing. In the last decade or more, the sequence is Ike Hall to Thayer Hall.

Or we do, and have already found a solution to the problem with the carts. It's simple and keeps Alumni flowing.
