USNA I Day Photos - Your Plebe?

Or we do, and have already found a solution to the problem with the carts. It's simple and keeps Alumni flowing.

I've said it before, the image of Plebes pulling their little carts makes USNA look horrible. Some funny mime's being posted on my class (USNA!) Facebook page, comparing West Point (plebes hauling duffel bags bigger than themselves), USNA with its little carts, and USAFA checking in to a luxury hotel with bellhop delivering luggage.

Some staff officer probably got a NAM for solving a problem that doesn't exist. What is it, 500 yards from Alumni Hall to Bancroft ? Nemo has been a consistent defender of the laundry carts as a solution to the lack of buses, but frankly the thought of busing Plebes that distance seems ridiculous to me. I get the whole efficiency thing and Nemo may be right , but from an image perspective - it is the wrong answer !

I had an exchange with a young West Point candidate on this issue a few months ago, and chastised him for bad mouthing USNA when he wasn't even a Cadet. DOG is right, both West Point and USNA grads are laughing their a$$ off at the carts, and we've earned the right to do so. Disgruntled old grads have been complaining and picking on younger, softer classes since the service academies were established.

PS. Are plebes allowed to walk on curved sidewalks, use upperclass ladders, and walk between tables in King Hall for the sake of being more efficient now ?

I defend it because I was there and it worked.

Old grads are going to complain about anything and everything. You should not be a measure for anything.

Hmmm....because new grads (or current Mids while we're at it) don't "complain about anything and everything"...So who exactly should be the measure....you?

Or don't listen to people who are not there? Old grads/new grads/mids a like. Everyone is a critic, old grads just tend to be noisier and more public.

Thanks to Capt MJ, for posting this thread for parents of Plebes, who want to look at photos of their Plebes.
What a great idea, to post a thread with links to photos of Plebes.

You know, and then post links with photos of Plebes.

:)

I'm going to bet that 'Drunk Old Grad' is the same troll previously known as 'pallen92x' given the obsession with the carts and statements disrespecting anyone and everyone. Glad he/she was banned expeditiously in this latest persona.

Where is that? I've been closely associated with USNA for 44 yrs now and don't know where that is.

Could be Wesley Brown Field House, the newer varsity athletic hall adjacent to 7th Wing.
Would bet NAAA wouldn’t want 1100+ plebe pairs of feet plus staff creating wear and tear, plus it’s in a congested area not too amenable for drop-off. And, there is probably no desire to have thousands of parents congregating in that area. Better optics and more room over near Worden Field.

Apparently, some of them went to the range on the 4th. New photo set posted on the Alumni Association photo program page today.
Looks like Alpha Company, squads 1 & 2.

Alpha Company is comprised of 1st and 2nd Platoons. Once Plebe Summer ends they will become 1st and 2nd Company. Alpha, Bravo, etc is only used for Plebe Summer. The range is a fun one. They have a separate set of Weapons Detailers that only do this all summer. They go through some additional training to learn to teach. There are also Marines and Sailors assigned to the range too, but it’s mostly Mids interacting with the Plebes. They spend a good chunk of the day there learning to shoot and qualify. The range is over at the Naval Station across the bay. We used to take the boat over... not sure if they boat or bus over now. Their regular Detailers disappear while they are at the range. One, it’s a good break for them (they get so much less sleep than the Plebes). Two, it removes stress from the Plebes as they focus on safety, learning fundamentals and qualifying. These will be the blue ribbons you see on their uniforms Parent’s Weekend.

I'll take the bet... looks like DOG has a long standing presence on line, a lot of Army Pride. Assuming he's legit (and no reason to think he isn't), he did his time and earned the right to make USNA jokes --just like I can crack on USAFA and USMA. Inter-service and inter-class rivalry is great, but we all respect each other and know that we are on the same team except for Saturday afternoon in December. Like it or not, the handcarts have given USMA and older USNA classes great ammo.

The purpose of the forum is to assist and provide functional information to officer candidates. While we certainly can have fun while engaging in the process of that mission, the moderator team is especially watchful for those who create forum memberships for the singular purpose of creating friction while not providing helpful and useful information.

Doh! I've been there a number of times but always used the full name. . . not "Brown" but I should have figured that one out.
