Interesting video posted today on the USNA 2023 parents Facebook page of the Plebes in Dahlgren Hall receiving their computers and luggage. What exactly do they receive? It looked like a desktop PC, laptop and printer. So well organized and orchestrated by the NA.

Based on what DD received two years ago it's a laptop, keyboard, mouse, printer and an external DVD player.

If it’s similar to the last couple of years, they got a pretty expensive laptop, monitor, and swaths of mostly unnecessary accessories. In total we were charged about 3 grand at computer issue. There was actually some clamor within the Brigade about this, because we were all forced to buy expensive blu-ray burners, external 2TB hard drives, headsets, and more dongles that most people just end up selling on eBay.

Brand new state of the art laptops. Plebes are allowed a few hours to set them up, make sure they work properly, etc. Then the equipment is repacked in the boxes, collected and it will be reissued right before ac year starts. Serial numbers are recorded so that each plebe will get their own back.

I wouldn’t really call it state of the art, it’s an HP Elitebook with an i7-8650 and 16Gb with a 512GB SSD for about 3k. From my understanding most of the money is for the support we get for it.

It is a laptop that provides access to DOD sites and services with their CAC. A monitor with docking station for use in their room in Bancroft. Printer. Peripherals such as surge protectors, external HD, etc. Software approved by DOD. A dream system for which they should (and are) grateful and put to good use pursuing the finest education on the planet.

Sad. I've yet to meet a Mid with such a negative disposition.
