Trying to find information to help answer someone else's question about posting of test scores in another forum, I logged into plebe DS's USNA admissions portal today. Under Nominations, it used to say Congress/Representative, and our state and district, and the date of that nomination. Now it has another entry, "Qualified Alternate," dated 03 JUL 2015. Does this mean that when they were slotting every plebe to a nomination source after I-Day, they slotted him to the NWL so someone else would be "charged" to our MOC?

Edited to add: He received an LOA dated just after his MOC nomination.

Thanks.

"Qualified Alternate" suggests that someone else received the principal nom for that MOC and your DS was one of the other 9 nominees on the slate.

No one is "slotted" to the national pool as that is not a source of noms. People in the national pool who are appointed are typically slotted to SecNav.

In my day, some random document we received indicated the source to whom we were slotted. It was a long time ago and I have no idea what document it was.

In any event, your DS is now a plebe. That's all that matters. Everything else is purely administrative from USNA's standpoint.

Thanks for satisfying my curiosity :) and clarifying NWL. Our MOC used a competitive slate (he has since retired). Appreciate the response!

If he used a competitive slate, then the nomenclature may mean that everyone was a "Qualified Alternate." In that case, your DS may well have been slotted to the MOC. If he or you are really curious, he can probably find out from Admissions during Ac Year.
