Hi, I’m new to the service academy forums! Has anyone heard anything from the usna stem camp for rising 11th graders?

Good luck with that - it's a great camp. My daughter went and really enjoyed. And this isn't Academy related, but if you are STEM leaning also look at the SAME (Society of Ameican Military Engineers) summer camps. They hold these on military bases and are selective, enjoyable, informative, and look good on a college resume.

Thank you for the feedback! So she applied her 8th grade and freshmen year too?

My DD applied after 8th grade and then after 9th grade and then after 10th grade. Only on the third try did she get accepted. Summer STEM is quite competitive, though not completely merit-driven. Remember that it’s largely an awareness and recruiting tool for USNA. And some applicants are more interested in the STEM aspect than the military aspect. Don’t be discouraged if it takes multiple tries to get in or if you don’t get in at all. It has no bearing on your chances of receiving offer of appointment.

She checks off so many of the requirements that it is disheartening.

Yup. Waitlisted 1st time, nothing last year. We’ve been told it is harder to get in the closer you live..

Thank you!

My DS is also a rising 11th grader and a first time applicant. He applied toward the end of March and we haven't heard anything yet. We live in New England. I'm sure that many well qualified applicants won't get a spot, but we are hoping for the best.

On the USNA Stem livestream that they did a couple days ago they said responses go out every other week. That lines up with the May 1st deadline for acceptances/denials. Last group of responses went out last week so I hope that we’ll hear back next week. (I’m in the running for Stem as a rising Junior and still haven’t heard back either.)

When did you apply?
