USNA Waiting List c/o 2021

It seems folks are getting TWEs via an email to check portal? Those who unfortunately got one can confirm. The norm for getting an appointment is a phone call this late in the game. Usually it's to confirm one is still interested and then possibly offer an appointment. These seem to be the norm from what we have seen this year and in past years, but every experience can vary. Just as I say a phone call, an AC may email first.

My observation from watching the BGIS (Blue & Gold Officer's Portal) over the years is that the Wait List and Open Offers within a Nomination pool are closely related. For instance, if a candidate has an Conditional Offer, with medical pending, there may be a wait list candidate on hold. Once the medical is resolved, and the Appointment made to the primary, then the WL will get TWE. Of course there are always exceptions, but for those wait listed, your chance of admission really is dependent upon someone else's results.

Also, to clarify NavyHoop's comment --- the offer of Appointment will never come from the BGO or AC. As I understand it, Admissions policy is to give the nominating MOC a few days to make the call him/herself, and if not , the notification will come from Admissions. As a BGO, I see the change of status on BGIS, but I make a point of not contacting the Candidate while an offer is pending to ensure that they have been notified through property channels.

Sorry you feel this way about USNA Admissions, but wanted to respond to ensure that the Parents and Candidates on here have realistic expectations. First, keep in mind that there are only a handful of Admissions Officers, each one handling thousands of Applicants and receiving hundreds of emails a day. Second, I don't know what the nature of your communications with the Admission Officer was, but if simply inquiring about the status and where your DS/DD was in the process, I suspect that they 1) either don't know, or 2) can't tell you. It is something of a secretive process, as their are a lot of moving parts that have to come together - essentially coming down to selecting the most qualified candidate within a given Nomination pool. I recognize the angst Parents and Candidates feel (and see it here !), but keeping the candidate informed and comfortable about where they are in the process is not a high priority. I also recognize the angst that comes when another Service Academy has made an offer, but DS/DD is holding out to hear from USNA, but again, I don't think USNA cares. USNA doesn't view the other Service Academies as "the competition". My experience, in almost 15 years as a BGO, is that the Admissions Officers do a pretty good job. If you aren't getting a response from Admissions, contact your BGO, and he/she can reach out to CGO, or if it is simply a status question, answer it or tell you why they can't.
I have no angst towards USNA admissions, or USNA. In fact I have tremendous respect and appreciation for USNA and it's admissions team. I also appreciate that USNA thought enough of my son to offer an appointment, and do not disparage anyone because that offer did not come earlier. What I said was that the admissions officer who was in charge of my sons case was terrible; and that is the fact. Indeed my sons BGO felt the same way. She did not respond to emails or phone calls at all. The emails and calls were from my son asking specific questions and advice on how to handle specific situations. Her successor apologized in an email later.

My son would have been delighted with an appointment to any of the three schools he applied to, and ultimately got in to each. We 100% understand why he didn't get an early offer of appointment to USNA. Someone else won the spot, and earned it. Zero hard feelings on that. My sons dream was West Point from the beginning. I encouraged him to consider the other schools, and he agreed they each had a ton of "pros" and very few "cons". He was excited to visit both USMA and USNA, but preferred USMA. He inquired about an overnight visit at USNA but his admissions officer refused to respond. If he had done an overnight there it would have been just to be sure he gave USNA full consideration. It doesn't matter though.

The admissions officer was terrible. There are a lot of officers who serve in that capacity at USNA for periods of time, and they then serve in other capacities as a Naval officer throughout this careers. Most I am sure do a great job and are great officers. She wasn't! And I doubt she is a good officer in whatever capacity she serves now.

We don't have to blindly defend someone just because they are associated with an accademy. My son wasn't jaded. He was treated fairly by USNA, and although I kid at times because of the Army Navy rivalry, I have only great things to say about both the Navy and USNA. But I have nothing good to say about that particular officer.

I fixed the #'s 14 and 15...looks like you posted at about the same time.

Is anyone hearing of any more folks on the WL for USNA?
Any news with any one who has declined an appointment for USNA?
The 2021 USNA Appointment and WL have been quiet for a few days.

Nothing here... I know it is coming soon (whatever the decision might be) since today was the "last" date to commit to a school.

I haven't heard anything but I am hoping they wait a couple of weeks because I will be getting a 3.65 to 3.75 gpa in engineering this semester at Virginia Tech and I want them to see that before they make a decision... Should I call and ask because I am currently on the waitlist.

DS received a waiver for his shoulder (dislocation and subsequent surgery) today.

Even if he doesn't come off the wait list, this is great news for future lurkers that a DQ does not always mean an end.

Good to hear! DS will also appreciate this news. Thanks for sharing... love hearing updates from candidates & their family. It helps those of us about to board this crazy coaster!

I received the NROTC Scholarship this evening- I haven't decided what school I will be taking it to (assuming I will be able to transfer); I am torn between WPI and RPI. Although, at this moment in time this is only a semi-temporary Plan B- c/o 2021 is still in the running! Let's do this wait-listers! Don't give up the ship!
Hi there, congrats on Nrotc at WPI & RPI. They are both great schools, but saw somewhere RPI provides free room & board to NROTC recipients?

Thank you! I am very excited to be pursuing this path- I have already come into contact with some awesome classmates. I called the RPI financial aid office and got a response from the person in charge- they told me that any amount of room and board (and dining plans) under my merit (20k- Leadership Scholarship) would be covered. I am definitely calling back and asking for something in writing before I agree to any room and food arrangements just to cover all of my bases. WPI told me the exact same thing - that anything under the scholarship amount would be covered, but you forfeit the amount not spent at the school, but again I would get something in writing.

Still keeping the hope alive, albeit distracted by finals coming up! I'm still praying for some positive news for my fellow wait-listers

KEEP the FAITH! and Congrats

End of the ride for DS today.

Good luck to everyone still in limbo!

Peace be with all of us (children and parents) in accepting the decisions made and paths they will persue.

It looks like a number of post from WL candidates for USNA C/O 2021 have received QNS in the last few days
Has anyone received an appointment from WL?

I cant login to my account. Is anyone else experiencing similar issues?

Yes, but I was successful using the new 2022 candidate password which was just sent to DS#2 as we start the process all over again!

Any of the senior posters know what we should do if we are unable to access the portal? Should we contact AC advisor or should we continue to patiently (or not so patiently) wait?

Last year about this time the login and password changed. Your old candidate number should work for another couple of weeks. beantown31 may have PM'ed it to you. Otherwise, a quick email to your AC will solve the problem. Good luck.

I just got home and received my TWE by email as well. Although I was not appointed I am grateful that I was placed on the Wait List. I look at it as an indicator of how close I was. 3rd year is the charm!

Received that TWE in the email too yesterday (I hope we don't get a mailed letter too). It's the end of the USNA road for me
