VA Nomination?

I received one from my Congressman but didn't get one from either of the Senators. What I learned is If you didn't do an interview with them, your not likely to receive a nomination

Congrats on your nomination! Kaine did not conduct interviews. Warner did and you're right- if you didn't interview with Warner no nomination was coming.

I received a letter a few weeks ago that said I was an alternate for my Congressional Nomination. However, when I checked my portal this morning- under nomination status it listed "Received: Presidential, Honorable Dave Brat".

I have not received any letters or indication of this nomination from my Congressman. Does this mean I got the alternate slot? Is there a chance my portal was updated before I was formally notified?

Please let me know if this has happened to anyone else before. I would call admissions or my congressman but it's the weekend!

Congratulations, it looks like you received a NOM from your congressman. The letter you received a few weeks ago stating you were chosen as an alternate tells that you received his NOM. It also tells me that your rep chooses a principle candidate and then lists the others as alternates, which means you received a NOM but you were not the top candidate. If the principle meets all requirements, he or she will be appointed. All those with NOMs that are not appointed on their MOC slate will be in the NWL vying for an appointment. You must have a NOM to get there. So you are still in the running.

It is also not unusual for your portal to update before you receive any official word from your rep. The same thing happened to my DD. She found out about her NOMs via her portal and not from her senator or rep until many weeks later. You are one step closer to an appointment. Good luck.

Thank you!! I am just hoping it is not an error, as I previously received a letter that I was an alternate for the nomination. Looks like I will just have to wait & see what comes in the mail!

I sent you a PM

Megan, Congressman Brat uses a ranked slate. He designates a principal. So your "alternate" nomination means you are somewhere 2-10. You're not really an "alternate" in the way I think you're considering it. Congratulations!!

Has anyone else heard back from Congresswoman Comstock (VA-10)?
I received my nomination to West Point from Congresswoman Comstock on January 27th. An offer of appointment popped up on my portal three days later on the 30th.

GoArmy, hooah and congrats!

BTW, didn't you already have a Presidential Nomination? Why do you think WP waited until you got your MOC nomination to send you your appointment? (Not that it matters, but just curious.)

Thank you! I did have both a Presidential and Son of Disabled Vet nom, I was also curious but there's no way for me to get an official answer, so everything I've got is speculation.

I know based off an email conversation I had with Major Bulls about a week before my appointment that I was in the top three for the district. I knew another kid from VA-10 with a LOA so I assumed I was #2 or #3. Since the Presidential nom pool is very large, I imagine they didn't appoint me through that because they wanted to get more completed files and see where I stacked up in the group. When I got the Congressional nom, being so highly ranked in the district may have opened up the spot for me. The other option is that the first "wave" went out around the time I got my appointment, so maybe enough files had been completed by then that I was given the spot with my other two nominations.

Like I said, that's all just speculation. I swear, thinking about the numbers behind the admissions process can drive you crazy!

I received mine to USNA on the 27th as well. Is there any way to tell how we're ranked? The letter said nothing about principle/alternate.

I don't think Comstock ranks, most Congressmen submit 10 names and the service academies pick from there.

Congratulations to Eulerchick on her nomination from Rep. Comstock and appointment to the USMMA. DS has a nomination from Rep. Goodlatte to USNA and USMMA and has been on "CPR" and "hold" for weeks now (seems like years!). Are there any other appointments out there? :welcome:

Don't know if the Virginia state slate of 5 has been filled yet for USMMA? If so, we're now onto the NWL....
