Hi, we're trying to plan a family reunion/vacation. The million dollar question is when will our current Plebe know his summer schedule? By my estimation if DS does airborne or air assault, and then CFT, he may be available for a vacation the first week or two of August.

Does anyone know when his summer plans will firm up? How likely is he to be off the first half of August.

    Thanks in advance.

Last summer, rising Yuks could do AA only. CFT 2 will July. It is hard to plan for vacation. My son who is currently a Yuk found out his summer schedule in the spring but it wasn't super firm until May. He was hoping to take a summer class to decrease the amount of extra hours in a double major. He is hoping for Airborne this summer. Me - ehhhhhh! :eek3:

It will be after Spring Break. They have the opportunity to do all sorts of things but most will do AA. Most will also have the two weeks after Buckner. If they are a Fall Team Corps squad athlete, the schedule will be different.

If you have to plan this far out, your best bet will be right after graduation or just before he goes back...but as stated above, no guarantee.

Best to leave a little cushion in vacation schedules, if possible. Over the past two summers we have had to change/cancel three flights due to summer training schedule changes. Fortunately, no change fees incurred (thank you Delta).

Airborne School is the most unpredictable - many changes possible due to weather and aircraft schedule/maintenance issues.

When you made the original reservations did you tell them it was for a cadet? Is that why they waived the change fees?

Not when we made reservations, only when changes were required. For the airborne school changes the flights were only from Atlanta to DC and the Delta customer service rep waived the change fees when we said it was due to changes in military orders.

The big one was this past summer. We waited until we thought DS's summer was set and then booked a $2,000 non-refundable international ticket. A week later DS got orders for CTLT spot that opened up. Delta customer service rep asked us to fax the orders to their military desk. The next day we got a full refund on our credit card.

I wouldn't ever bet the ranch on any schedule being fixed in stone. My son is a Cow, and we booked a cruise to start the summer right after we picked him up. It ultimately worked out, but if was tenuous right down to the end. A big addition to his summer schedule was dropped on him, by email, a weekend before graduation day, and we thought he would miss the cruise, but his TAC fixed things. That was actually the second major change he had to his summer schedule, so be advised. That is simply how things are at West Point. Flexibility is important.

Its pretty safe to say that (s)he will have the first two weeks of August off. Air Assault goes all in June and CFT was all of July. There is a period of 2 weeks between CFT and reorgy week. The only possible thing that you can have in that period of time is an AIAD, but that is completely optional and does not occur often.

Watch out for fall sports - DS had to report Aug 5 this year.
