Hello everyone,

I have accepted the appointment and will be part of the class of 2022. As a result, my parents wish to go on a 4-day long vacation to either Hawaii or Mexico. My question is, would there be any problems with going to either of those places?
Thank you for your time.

Well I wouldn't go to Hawaii if I only had 4 days to devote to it. You'll be spending two days just traveling. It was great fun when my wife and I did it. Hawaii was nice but I really think you need to spend a week just because of how long it takes to get there.
I suppose Mexico is OK but it's not somewhere I would travel for safety reasons. I'll suggest somewhere in the US where you can see SOME sights but focus more on spending time as a family. Maybe Niagara Falls, the Grand Canyon, New Orleans, or the beach, or something else you would all enjoy.

If you head to the Grand Canyon then there is a great deal for a train out of Williams AZ to the Grand Canyon, spend the night, and return by train the next day.

To answer your immediate question, until you're a cadet there is no problem. After you're a cadet there will be at least certain areas in Mexico, and the world, where you will not be able to travel.

Hope this is helpful.

Haha well it is. I don't really mind using my name because I have learned that my first and last name are very common. Also, I don't think anyone would be hunting me down for any reason as of now.

I see... well thank you for the heads up. I guess it's up to me to own up to this mistake. Thank you.

The GC visit is in our summer travel plans after picking up our DS in CO in mid July. Could you please provide a link or additional info to this "great deal" ? Thanks in advance.

Google "Grand Canyon Railway Tour Williams AZ". The link should show up at the top. They have various packages, some include meals. The food was great and the train is great fun. They have discounts for AARP (probably wouldn't apply to a youngster like you) but we were able to get a better deal with Marriott points. If yo have any further questions please PM me.

No thank you. I'll own up to it.
Daniel, you didn't do anything wrong. Your post was polite and your question was reasonable. If an upperclassman was trolling on here for dirt on incoming basics then they should be embarrassed. And even if they were, what could they possible give you a hard time about? You are more likely to get grief for something dumb you do or say during the first week! Good luck at the Academy, try your hardest and keep things in perspective and you'll be fine.

Thank you @kinnem
