Hey everyone, First of all I was wondering if plebes take an oceanography course. If so, is there is a chance to validate it? I'm taking 1006 right now in college. I know my class may not line up exactly with the plebe oceanography, but all intro oceanography courses are basically the same. Just wondering if this is a class you can validate online, or something I would have to contact the department about.

Thanks,
Brian

Oceanography is not a core course, so you wouldn't take it unless you took it as an elective or majored in oceanography.

You would have to contact the department.

Validation is not something that is offered universally. It's not like you can call every department and try to validate half a matrix worth of classes. They may offer it, they may not. Worth a shot to send an email, sure, but they can simply say no.

Definitely contact them and ask (probably after plebe summer).

I went to 4 different departments during the beginning of the school year, and was able to validate courses in 3 of those departments with a college transcript and class syllabus.

If you have taken, passed, and paid for a course in college that is similar to a class at the Academy, you deserve credit for it, so try hard to get it.

how many classes and which ones did they let you validate just showing them the transcript and syllabus? Also, who did you go to and when exactly were you allowed to do this?

Thanks,
Brian

I validated FE210 (introductory economics), NL 200 (a leadership class that I validated because I took intro to psychology in college), and FS 201 (the 3rd semester of spanish, which I also did an interview in Spanish for).

So 3 total classes through my college transcript, and I validated 4 other classes through the testing before and during Plebe summer. I e-mailed the department chairs of each respective department right after Plebe summer ended and they asked me to bring a transcript and syllabus from the class to them. They were very friendly and happy to give me the validations for those classes.
