Validation - Dual Enrollment

I've always thought (AF)ROTC was a great way to get military training and commision, and very possibly a scholarship. That is, if the it's at a good university.

so how difficult are the math placement tests. if i took ap calc AB i should be fine at least to test out of calc 1 right? i got a b in it...

Btown, what's your big rush? Some have felt that it is better to start at CalcI and get an "A" than rush into CalcII and wallow around, pulling perhaps a C. The courses they teach at AFA, from what I have heard, are not exactly akin to AP courses. Maybe better to brush up and do well, than rush ahead and take your chances? Just musing

Everything I have read here and at CC say otherwise. This is what I have gathered:

1. Cadets never regret validating
2. The lower level courses aren't necessarily easier
3. You can always move down if you want

I'm also planning on validating Calc I.

with calc AB, you should be fine validating calc 1 and I REALLY recommend doing so and starting out with Calc 2. Calc 2 will be a breeze for you man you will be okay.

I took the practice math placement exam at this cite and I was suprised at how poorly I did! I need to brush up on my trig, since it's been almost 5 years now!

I was looking on the AFA site and it says differential calculus is Calc I and integral calculus is Calc II. I'm taking a 4 year university's Calc I right now and it covers both differentials and integrals in the one year (I've already done everything that the AFA site says Calc II covers). So would that put me at Calc III then? Doesn't seem right...

Same here... I'm taking a dual-credit Calc class. We did derivatives the first semester, and we're doing integrals this semester.

well with AB calc we did differentials/derivatives and integrals too. so would that mean calc 3 for me also if i do well enough? and thanks cad. you made me feel a bit better...lol

Calc 2 is integrals and many different applications. Just try your best on the exam, thats what I recommend.

you automatically take both though right? the wording in the appointee kit was a little confusing regarding this. i know calc 3 is something you have to arrange and is pretty rare...and 6 days right cad!

haha thats right man, it all begins thursday!!

To validate Calc 1 is one exam, to validate Calc 2 is another exam that you may wish to take if you want. I wouldn't recommend trying to validate Calc 2, calc 3 is a beast!! ..Unless you think you're up to it.

maybe ill say i want to take the test and then just sleep through it. joking of course...

I know one should try to validate all they can, but what does a basic do when they're not trying to validate a class? Various "activities"?

Very VERY true.

AB calculus should only cover differentials and basic integrals, you would need Calc BC to do well on a calc 2 exam to be honest.

If you are going to be a fuzzy major, then you would be done with math, period. Calc 3 is a technical major requirement. It's brutal, but I was glad to get it over with.
