Validation - Dual Enrollment

Does anyone know if you can validate Statistics? I took it last semester and it'd be nice to not have to take it again.

Unless I am reading this wrong or there's a typo... the chart on the above-mentioned site specifies the AP BC exam. Does this mean that a 4/5 on the AP Calc AB exam will not be considered? Or is it even necessary to take the AP test if we can validate Calc I with a good score on the placement exam?

I believe taking the AP Calc test would be a waste of time; however, don't take my word for it...

USAFA doesn't take AP calc exams at all (unless things have changed). The validation test in BCT is what matters.

I just reread the 'academic preparation' section in the appointee instructions packet, and it basically says USAFA will consider AP scores (AB, BC, or Stats) but that the placement exams are the "primary basis for initial math placement."

Hornetguy, I sense that you are right...even if things have changed in the past few years, it sounds like the placement exams are key. But I'm not sure if we can validate Calc I without taking the AP test, even if we score well on the BCT exam.

I'll call the Math Dept tomorrow. Thanks for your help.

I was wondering since I took calc 3 at my highschool and got A's would they just let me retake calc 3 at the Academy? I scored a 5 on the BC Calc test as well if that matters.

They won't stop you from taking any core class if you would prefer to take it again.

So I got the max score on the AB calc test. Does this mean I still have to do a qualifying test at the Academy, or do I get to skip it?

I believe you still have to take the validation test. AP score is considered, but not enough on its own.

You have to take it. I got a 5 on the BC exam and still had to take both math validation tests.

along the lines of validation from college courses, not AP exams, would it hurt if it showed a few lower college level grades on there?

I just called the math and physics depts, and my understanding now is that a solid score on any placement exam during BCT is enough to validate a course (i.e. Calc I, Phys 110/215, etc).

A 5 on the AP test is more like a feather in your cap - it helps reassure USAFA that you're proficient in the subject, but you can still validate a course without ever taking an AP test. (please correct me if I'm wrong about that). The BCT exam is what counts. Good news for those of us who don't want to spend the $86 for each AP test:thumb:

As far as I know, the only subject that requires the AP test for validation credit is English (must get a 5). Or is there an English placement exam during BCT?

PLEASE tell me a good placement exam during BCT will get me out of freshman English. PLEASE? lol

I got a 4 on the AP and I'm taking comp 2 right now ( :bang: ) so I should be able to get a good score.

I took Comp I through dual credit and I'm in Comp II now. Got an A last semester and should have one this semester. I called the English department and asked if it would be possible to validate. They said yes, but I've heard people say that you CAN'T through dual credit. Oh well, I guess I'll find out when I get there...

No English validation exam, would be hard and awkward to try and make one...

If you validate freshman English, do you not have an English course that year and just wait until 3dig year to take lit? Would that translate into a free period 4dig year or just a different academic class? I'm trying to decide whether it's worth taking the English AP test and hoping for a 5 to validate.
