Validation - Dual Enrollment

My question deals with the many validation tests that the appointees will be taking when they arrive to the academy. I've been taking spanish as a foreign language for 5 years and have received college credit through a dual enrollment program that my high school offers and I was wondering if anyone knew if I could get that credit transferred upon arrival to the academy to fulfill the foreign language requirement. I've paid a lot of money into it and was wondering if it would be able to be used when I attend the AFA this upcoming school year. It's from a community college but the school is accredited so I wasn't sure.

No, you can only get validation by taking the online pre-test before BCT. USAFA takes almost no college credit for classes.
 
question about prep school. If you go to prep school, and take some classes there, can you validate the classes you took there or do you still have to come in with a clean slate? Is there really more of an advantage of going to prep school rather than your local college+ROTC and applying again?
 
if you're talking about THE prep school ;)

then, it is possible to get 2 validation credits (physics and Calc 1)
 
yeah, I have CHS (College in High School) credit through university of Pittsburgh for Calc and Physics
so, that won't help me?

if you learned the material well, it will :smile:

they have placement exams. you have the opportunity to validate calc 1 and 2 (and on a case-by-case basis, calc 3), and physics.

the tests are during basic, and a lot of people slept through them. i'd encourage you to do your best. i validated all of the core math because i tried on the test.
 
My sons validated a few classes but they went to local u's for their coursework, didn't take it in a high school. In any case, you will still have to take a bunch of classes - no especially easy semesters.

So, it is possible to validate a college class if you took it out of high school? I don't mean all, but maybe a few?
 
There's only one or two classes where they will accept college credit. Having a college class and being able to then take the validation test and do well helps.

are the tests kind of like an AP test?
 
Which classes can you get transfer credit for? Freshman english?

I really hate that class. lol
 
i actually really liked the english class here, and i took 2 english classes in college before, and they didn't transfer. I had my associates before i graduated high school and i could only transfer 1 class, behavioral science. But i am forever thankful that i did take all those college classes because I now have somewhat of an idea of what i'm supposed to be doing! :smile: i can't imagine coming to the Academy without any college experience...but then again, my high school was a joke.
 
so basically my last 3 and a half years of college will go to waste? i'm a business major and i haven't taken a science or math course for close to two years and i'm pretty rusty on the subjects.
 
prepare to have alot of math/science here. that's why we get a Bachelor of Science, even if you major in english :)

well, depends on what you consider waste. Will you not get that credit for HERE, sure. But you will be prepared better for some classes, and you may be able to transfer those later for grad school (if you choose to go to grad school)
 
I have to say; tennisfan, you must really be dedicated and committed. Everyone here knows my love and passion for the academy and for the air force in general. I spent a very large portion of my life with the air force. But to give up 3 1/2 years of college to attend the academy is definitely 1 hell of a decision. It would have been so much simpler to finish your current college degree and go to OTS. You must really want the academy. Definite commitment. mike....
 
Christcorp, that is exactly what a bunch of my ROTC friends are telling me to do (I'm not in ROTC, parents would never let me....). I completely understand the logic behind it, but it's more of a personal thing. I always wanted to go to the Academy, and at the very least applying and not getting an appointment, I can at least tell myself "hey, at least I tried" instead of not trying at all. OTS is definitely a backup but of course there's the chance that when I apply I might not be accepted or they don't have enough spots. I definitely think the Academy would prepare me better and I would be more than willing to basically go through "college" for another 4 years. Also the idea of a finance degree seems like a complete joke now:biggrin:
 
I know that one of my sons validated Calc I and Physics, and I believe English as well. Don't know about the other guy since he is a bit more private.
 
Thanks for all the info, everyone. I graduated with 23 college credits, and have since taken 13. I'm hoping I'll be able to validate a few of the classes, but if not I know the experience will still be very helpful.
