Van Halen Dreams

My plebe son sent me a text this afternoon. It went something like this, "2020 #%@^@%# sucks, Van Halen died". I replied, "yes, but it was Eddie Van Halen, not the whole band". To which he replied, "mom, you can't have Van Halen without Eddie Van Halen". Do I rejoice at raising him so well, with such great varied music tastes, or pout, because he schooled me, and he's right?
I have so many great memories that were accompanied by the music Van Halen produced. And a blurry afternoon and evening at the Cabo Wabo Cantina is at the top of my list for 'good time was had by all'. Sad day for rock music.

The first concert I ever went to was "Summerfest '78" on September 23rd, 1978 at Anaheim Stadium. The lineup was Sammy Hagar, Van Halen, Black Sabbath and Boston. Although Boston was the supposed headliner, Black Sabbath and especially Van Halen blew them out of the water. It was Van Halen's first stadium show and was where Eddie Van Halen first met Sammy Hagar, who would later become vocalist for the band after David Lee Roth separated.

Great show, great band, great guitarist.

RIP Eddie.
