I have received a varsity letter through jrotc drill and rifle team. Will they count as sports or as extracurricular activities?

With that being said do I have any chance towards getting an AROTC or NROTC scholarship?

Sports:
Varsity Letter in JROTC Drill 2 and in Air Rifle 1

The sports section is very weak due to NJROTC staff and Drill Team. Both all year round and requires full commitment and interferes with all the sports seasons. However I might be able to play golf my senior year

Are you a currently a HS Senior or Junior? The drill and rifle team varsity letters would count as extra-curricular activities. The scholarship application is asking about varsity letters in sports.

Every board and every year is different....

My daughter had an almost identical resume to include volunteer time and music and with a 4.0 GPA, Honors/AP/Dual Credit, JLAB Commander, drill team commander, 30 ACT and her senior year she was BN XO. She squeezed in a swimming her senior year. She received a 3 Year AD.

Son with 3.85 GPA, Honors/AP/Dual Credit, Color Guard Commander, JLAB Commander, Rifle Team, 30 ACT, BN XO and volunteering BUT he got 2 1/2 (began workouts in spring of 10th grade) years of varsity football in...got 3 4 year offers.

Sports is an easy fix. Go join a intramural sport club TODAY. It can be frisbee club or anything. Strengthen the sports section.

I don't think there is an option on the application for NROTC to list varsity letters from JROTC as "Sports". You can try to explain your invovlement in the other activities section though.

I am by no means an expert, but JROTC activities that are listed on the application under SPORTS should count towards athletics. If your school gives a varsity letter, make sure it is on there. Rifle, drill, orienteering and for the first time Raiders all listed.

Our HS gives varsity letters for orchestra. My son did not list this as a sport, but did include it the sections for other activities.

Yes. This time of year, you should be able to walk on to track or tennis. Talk to the coach. It's amazing how much they'll work with you.

This works too. It's even better if you have some prior experience with the sport or know the coach. Who knows, maybe they might even spare you a seat on the varsity bench ;)
