Would adding a Varsity sport during spring semester (this semester) of my senior year be helpful to my application? Obviously, I understand it wouldn't hurt, but would it be better to focus on grades or?

I don't see how it would help since by the time it would first meet and you were confirmed Varsity, it would be quite late in their selection process. Are you adding it to 2 or 3 others or would this be your first Varsity sport?

I've been garunteed a spot on Varsity if I want it. So I would notify USNA admissions within the next week. My application was not complete until a january 30 so I doubt they have reviewed it yet anyways. I'd be adding it to 2 years of Varsity Swim and a year of Varsity Basketball

I don't know, someone else may have more direct info but so much could happen before then; new coach who wouldn't honor that agreement, injury, etc.. I think they'd look on it as a plan but not an accomplishment yet. Just my opinion.

I've also emailed my BGO with this question. Practice would begin at the end of this week so injury/change of coach are unlike but I understand your concern. I was just posting in hopes of getting some outside perspective. Thanks!

Did you pass the CFA? If you didn't and want to re apply for 2022, the sport can help your package

I would use the sport on this year's app and just email admissions asking if they could add it to my file. From what I understand, I am 3Q with a nom, but did not receive the principle nom (who accepted appointment to USNA) so I am afraid I will go to the NWL and am looking for any and all ways to improve my chances.

If you join the team, do it for the right reasons. Don't go and quit the team once you get USNA's decision on your application.
I definitely would not quit once I receive USNA's decision. However, it is more of a I won't join if it's not worth it. I have been working very hard on running/working out on my own every day which is nice because I can go when I have breaks throughout the day. I'm just not sure if adding Varsity track will improve my chances. It would be my first and only year on the team which is one reason it might not help, and additionally, I'm not sure if it's too late to add something the admissions board will consider. However, I do know the stats about how many mids played Varsity sports in HS and while I have 2 years V swim and 1 year of V basketball, I know that adding it wouldn't hurt... it's just a matter of if it would help at all

I don't work in admissions, but the deadline was set for a reason. You should contact your admissions officer to verify first. Good luck!
