Hey y'all, I am looking for some insight on gear to bring to Plebe Summer. I know we should only be bringing our forms from the PTR packet and ID, but I am hoping to tryout for the varsity lacrosse team. I was wondering if I would need to bring my lax equipment to I-day, have it shipped from home, or if they have gear we are supposed to borrow for tryouts? I would feel bad if I brought a bunch of unneeded stuff, or on the flipside, do bad at my tryouts because I am using a stick I am unfamiliar with. I am sure it is different for different sports but any insight would be much appreciated!

Have you filled out the recruiting questionnaire?

Questionnaire??? A Natural doesn’t fill out a questionnaire.

… do bad at my tryouts because I am using a stick I am unfamiliar with. I am sure it is different for different sports but any insight would be much appreciated!

Use the the LAX stick that has “Savoy Special” written on it …. Thunder & Lightning is guaranteed.

I would wager that you could ask the assistant coach.

Have you filled out the recruiting questionnaire?
Yes, I did fill out the questionnaire a couple months back. I started the recruiting process pretty late for D1 programs, so I did not get many looks, but I will reach out to the assistant coach about tryouts. Thank you!

hi - my daughter is on the varsity lacrosse team - she was recruited but I am happy to answer any questions - feel free to PM me once you have enough posts and have been on the forum long enough. last summer there were 5 girls that tried out - none made it - but they do have a couple girls on the team that were "walk ons". I would bring your stick, goggles, cleats - you can make arrangements to drop the gear off with the assistant coaches before you check in - last summer the girls trying to make the team went with the recruits to lacrosse for sports period. They mainly did wall ball and a few drills. The coaches are not at the plebe summer sports period - a firstie is in charge of the girls. So the actual try out won't happen till school starts. I do know they have 16 girls in the 26 recruiting class which is a ton!! but you never know! Good luck and let me know if you have questions!!!

You need to contact the lacrosse coaches ASAP. Your goal is to be an “invited walk on” versus a regular walk on.

Wow that is a lot of recruits. Thank you so much for this it was so helpful! I am sure I will be reaching out with my many questions soon :)

Slightly different question (didn't want to make a new thread), but how do auditions work for the Drum and Bugle Corps? I have played violin for the past ~10 years or so, but I'm not sure if my experience would translate to drums/percussion/band instruments. Are only those who have prior experience allowed to audition, or is it open to anyone? I've only really found info on brass instruments, but nothing with drums/percussion. Any help would be awesome!

Not sure if you have checked out USNA's website, but they actually have an orchestra! I'm in the same boat as you- except, I play bass.

Auditions will be held in the fall semester. I also know that the orchestra rehearses every Sunday night. When I went to CVW back in October, I met a plebe who plays the viola. He said he loves the orchestra program.

Here's the website regarding USNA's orchestra:

It should have the director's email and everything you need to know about the music department.

Hope this helps!
