of war. Dropping the "of war" is a bit of marketing. Parents who don't understand this distinction are the ones trying to treat it like an institution it's definitely not. Nowhere in the name does "United States Military Academy" (or Naval Academy or Air Force Academy or Coast Guard or Merchant Marine Academy) attempt to indicate that your child is there for a regular college experience.

Maybe it's just a "college" scholarship program, to be repaid through a little military service, for you and your daughter.

For me and for my son, we saw and see it as the most preferable path to becoming an officer in the military, not because of cost, but because of the quality of experiences and opportunities.

Think this thread has run its course. In the future, please remain respectful of other posters. Agree or disagree with statements if you deem appropriate but don't vent your frustration at individuals. It's not keeping with the goals and spirit of this site.
