So Friday afternoon, DS got a call from USNA stating they wanted to offer him an appointment, and asking if he would accept if they sent him a letter. He was kinda thrown for a loop since he had already set down the plan B path, although he had made his mind up to reapply next year. He told the Lt. he needed to talk to his parents, since he was also worried about the job commitments he had made for the summer as well as the deposit sent in to the civilian college. We of course told him that all involved would understand how he could not pass this up! He emailed the Lt. back early Friday evening. My question, as the chief worrier in the family, is how long do we wait to hear that the email was received? What if it wasn't? DS does not want to call, since email was what the Lt. offered. Any advice?

How long? Pick up the phone tomorrow. Isn't that how they communicated with your DS? That's what you say inititially. Then you reverse your field.

In any case, this does not matter. Your DS requires a 2-way communication, NOT an email. NOT a text message. NOT leaving a VM on a machine. Who could he possible offend with a phone call saying, "I'M COMING!"

Congrats! He made the right choice. What summer job and college deposit could possibly merit even questioning this?! Calling and saying "yea" are the 2 great no-brainers of his lifetime!

Or are you pulling our collective leg?

Congratulations to your son!!! Yes I would call them, they called you!!!! Was he on the wait list?

Whistle Pig - never would I pull yours or anyone else's leg! We were all somewhat shocked...the saying that sometimes prayers are answered when you stop praying came to my mind over the weekend! Now who exactly do I call? I know the name of the Lt who called...do I ask for him...or just pull the number right off the caller ID?
He was not on the wait list that we knew of..
Thanks for the advice!

And have your son make the call. Good luck, I hope he gets the appointment!

Congratulations!!! How awesome! Rejoicing with you!!!

In HIS time. Not ours. In any case, this is the greatest of good news! Now, I'd begin calling the number that called you. Should that fail to put you in touch with LT. Doe, I'd call the admissions office. This is soooooooooo cool! I confess though, I've not heard of candidates being offered an appointment in this way. So, help us to vicariously share your joy. Let us know after you/your son has contacted the Man. And tonite, prayers shift from supplication to gratitude!!! AMEN!

The LT who called was probably from the USNA Admissions/Candidate Guidance Office (CGO) office. Your son should be able to call and ask for that LT, or for his Regional Director in the CGO. As someone else mentioned, your son should definitely be the one to call.

Congratulations!

YES YES YES, have your son call!!!!!!!!!! Congratulations!!! I am thrilled for you all!!!

So, update...had a confirmation email from Admissions that DS is entered as "offer accepted". Paperwork is on the way and will be returned quickly! I agree that the way this appointment came about was not traditional...but I can say it is real! Thanks for all the support this forum has provided thru this process! I am sure I will continue to reference it in the future!
