Regardless of commissioning or enlisting, states have very different policies on veterans benefits. Some are much more generous than others. Some criteria are based on the state one enters a service from, and some are based on where a vet decides to live after leaving the service. State laws are changed regularly so check with the one(s) you care about for up to date information. Thank you for your (future) service!

Good post. I regularly tell our USNA sponsor family alumni who are separating to research state benefits, which are different than and in addition to the Federal DVA benefits.

For 100% disabled veterans in Virginia, the benefits are tangible. One car registration for $1 and no property tax on the primary residence.
I recently saved one of my friends about $10K a year.
