Brother and sister vets, I enjoyed the quotes in this History channel piece.

Tell me, though, in the cover photo - saluting with left hand? Shielding eyes from sun glare? Reversed photo? Stumping me.

Ah - just figured it out by looking at thumb placement. Facing toward camera, face in shadow.

The Chief of Naval Operations Veterans’ Day message - with a video clip including USNA scenes.

Thanks Capt MJ. When I was on active duty, I thought Veterans Day was simply a convenient day-off after the Marine Corps Ball (usually a much needed rest/ recovery day). It has much more significance to me now as an older, wiser (?), and seasoned citizen.

To my comrades I want to express my gratitude knowing we are brothers & sisters in arms. We all answered the call to serve our country and defend it. Whether you are USN, USMC, US Army, US Coast Guard, US Air Force, or a member of a National Guard; each of us did our part to preserve the Republic and defend it from our enemies.

No matter what war, conflict, or the times of peace we served; each of us made the same commitment to the nation. We may kid one another about what is the best branch of the military or who had it tougher, but we all share similar experiences & dedication.

Commercial Message: join one of the fraternal veteran organizations. Each is an advocate for veterans. Whether it be the VFW, American Legion, DAV, or others, they stand up for veterans and help insure the benefits you earned are available to you.
