I recieved the letter saying I was officially in competition for the vp nomination etc etc. When will they send out answers? And will they tell you if you did not recieve it? I know getting the nominations from the VP are rare.

Not sure of your letter, but everybody does receive the initial letter, basically stating thank you for applying and they have sent it foward to the SA. VPs are very rare only 5 at any time at the SAs are appt under this category. So the chance of actually getting it is about 1 out of 1600. Good luck...hope you get it, and remember somebody will get it...you just might be the one!

Best of luck to you, curiousr28, as you wait to hear. Thanks for your questions and welcome to the SAF! :thumb:

If you read through the following documents, perhaps some of your questions will be answered:

Due to a large volume of applicants (usually several thousand per academy), the Vice President has authorized the academies to evaluate all applications and rank them according to qualifications.

All qualified nominees not selected for appointment through the congressional nomination process are considered qualified alternates for the purposes of selection by other noncongressional nominating or appointing authorities....Other nominating authorities include the Vice President.

curiousr28, you asked:
When will they send out answers?
Notification of those selected for a nomination is normally made during February or March of the year in which the class convenes.

you also asked:
And will they tell you if you did not recieve it?
I can only give as example my son's experience. He applied for a VP nomination as instructed and did not receive a letter notifying him that he did not receive it. His nomination was charged to his congressman.

Hey, Pima, how did you calculate that 1:1600 odds of getting a VP nomination?

I took the fact that only 5 at a SA can have a VP..then add into the fact that typically 1600 appts are given out (assuming it is for USNA, USMA, AFA...there was no acknowledgement of which SA), so I just rounded it out to 1 a yr

There is a parent here who has a son at WP (I think) that got the VP for another SA...I clearly recall the conversation b/c I always wondered if the appt came with a big ribbon and balloons  She stated it didn't

She also stated that he got it at the very end, and if I recall correctly it was after he got the apptment to the sister SA

Here is the thread you are referencing, Pima.

Vice Presidential Nominations get announced in Feb - March. And it usually goes to a highly qualified candidate that has been waiting on a nomination from other sources.

The Vice President can only nominate for USNA, AFA, and USMA, but not for the others.

He can only have 5 from each of those in attendance at any time. So if there are 15 persons currently in the academy with VP Nominations, he won't be issuing any additional.

I believe that he will only be giving 1 or 2 per academy, per year, to ensure that each year he has the ability to provide nominations.

thankyou, i recieved a nomination to west point but was deferred this year... my application got messed up and they did not give me an interview for naval academy but i sent out the one for the vp.. i understand its very unlikely i will get it but you never know.

From the link that Antoinette found...Darla's son found out closer to April...I can't see the appt from VP coming out in Feb...because everybody on the slate must get assigned a WCS....the candidates are not required to have their file completed until Mar 1, thus that means the slate is not filled and you cannot appt until everybody on the slate has been completed and assigned a WCS.
Then on March 30, he got two significant pieces of mail: the VP nomination AND an offer of appointment to USMA. We are still scratching our heads as to why and how it all happened.

He already had an appointment to the AFA...common thought that I have seen on this site is that the SA wants you and they are just trying to figure out how to fit you into the puzzle.

Good luck

does anybody know the link for VP Biden's application for a nomination for class of 2014?

You can log into your candidate file using your SSN and birthdate (I could do this starting March 1). The information you submitted for summer seminar (gpa, class rank, test scores) carries over to your file. Also, I got a letter yesterday stating:

Congratulations! Your application to the Air Force Academy indicates you have the potential for admission. We'll be sending you additional instructions in the summer. In the meantime, here are some things to do to make yourself as competitive as possible...

It goes on to say that you can check your status online at admissions.usafa.edu/secure/online/onlineapplication.exe and you should download the PCQ booklet.

alright thank you, i too received that letter and information. i guess i'm curious as to when the file transfers over to the candidate file from the summer seminar "accepted" page

The summer seminar page was just for summer seminar. It IS NOT the login for your candidate file. You log into your candidate file on the general admissions login (where those who didn't apply for summer seminar apply for the academy). I hope this is what you are asking. :thumb:
