Vice Presidential Nomination Questions

Back in April of last year, I applied for the Vice Presidential nomination; for the academy preference, I chose USNA ofc and have been waiting ever since. Recently I received two rejection letters from both my senators and one from my congressman regarding nominations. However at the same time, USNA just issued out an LOA to me, gosh I wish they had sent one sooner. All I have to hope for now is the Vice Presidential Nomination. Looking at the official White House website, it says thousands of people apply for this nomination source every year and yet, only five people are selected per academy. Additionally, I saw that instead of the VP's office looking through every application, the academies themselves filter and rank most of the applications for the nomination. Does having an LOA give me any sort of advantage when it comes to receiving a VP nomination; and, are people who have already attained a nomination from another source not considered for the VP nomination so that the academies could possibly make room for people who have yet to attain a nomination in the first place? Thank you for your time.

Do your Senators and Congressperson know about your LOA? No idea, but if they don’t, perhaps you could let them know that you have received the LOA. Their slates are not yet due (1/31), some have not yet submitted and *maybe* they have space. For various reasons.

USNA has a few they control, and can give out. But you are also not the only one in this position. I know of two here that were unable to fulfill this piece of their LOA, and therefore no appointment. Happens every year.

Wait….for c/o 26? Is the VP nom open in April for this cycle? What happened with your LOA for USMA? I’m probaby missing something 🤔

I was in this position up until a few days ago. Like mentioned above it’s worth a shot to contact your representatives and let them know about your LOA. They may not change their decision, but they may slide you in if space ever opens up.

Just wrote an email to my two senators and congressman. Here's to hoping for miracles!
